Awhile ago my Father and I were shopping for food at the Pick n' Save and I pointed out the Chocolate Syrup and suggested he buy some. He said "You like Chocolate Syrup? What do you like it in" and I told him "I like it in a bottle" and he laughed and said "... Thats not what I meant..." It look me a while to realize what he meant, but afterwards I recognized it as a "Total Aspie Moment".

Anyone else have a story like this?

:D Well, it was a vague and misleading question, wasn't it? More correctly, he should have asked "What do you use it for?"

To which you would answer: "For a while."

I've learned to use this tendency just to annoy people. When someone asks me what time it is, I reply: "Daytime."

Did he mean like it on ice cream or in milk?

I would have been lost with that question too. I just go "huh?"

That was a pretty dumb question your father asked you.

I mean Ice Cream and milk are pretty much the only things people put chocolate syrup in, duh!

why not on pancakes and waffles also? how 'bout in coffee and tea along with the milk? mexicans like mixing it with tomato paste and pepper extract and using it like gravy, it is called mole [mohl-ay] and it is an acquired taste. i bet i missed something:+(
i guess this qualifies as an "aspie moment" or series of moments- in cafeterias, i always ask for more gravy. in pizza parlors, i always ask for more cheese. in ice cream parlors i always ask for 'shakes with exotic mixtures such as peanut butter mixed with chocolate and malt, or blue ice with raspberry sherbet.

"do you know what time it is?"
"yes."
"can you tell me?"
"yes."
"well? what time is it?"
"10:04 p.m."
"why didn't you just tell me that?"
"why didn't you just ask?"

I try not to do that any more. ;)

I would have said the same thing in your situation. :P

First of all, it should be ON, not IN.
Second of all, it should be fairly obvious what choclate syrup is typically used for... Ice cream and making chocolate milk.

Haha I love that... I have had many aspie moments with that one too. :D

I would just say: "No, I don't know what time it is, it's something you have to look at the clock to know." Or just answer "no", and they looked confused, and say: "Can you find out?" Then I looked at my watch and told them.

Once I even answered: "No, I guess it's only Rain Man who "knows" what time it is." 8) (At that time I didn't even know that I was on the spectrum.)

Him: You have a photo?
Me: Yes
Him: Lol that means you were supposed to show me a photo of you
(this was in PM)

At the Nsider2 forum:

Him: You watch any TV shows?

Me: Yes

Him: lol...You were supposed to elaborate what TV shows you watch. haha

These things sneak up on me.
