Most people think of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as being an 80's phenomenon, but it debuted as a radio series in 1978. Here is the link to the Wikipedia articlehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The ... dio_series)
I first encountered HHGG as a radio series. I used to listen to shortwave broadcasts before the WWWeb made it less compelling. I heard it on the BBC world service. Later, I played the interactive fiction version on my Commodore 64. I then read all 4 books in the trilogy, saw the BBC televised mini-series, the film, and then read it on my Palm PDA. The PDA didn't exist when DNAdams wrote HHGG, but it is like the "Guide" except smaller, more versatile, and doesn't say "Don't Panic" on the front. Hmmm, I will have to fix that. When I access the web via wifi, I have much of what was in the "Guide" available (most of the known knowledge of our civilzation) except how to make a PanGalactic Gargle Blaster. Hmm, I will have to fix that.
