I like Brutalism, when it is well lighted with natural light inside.
I like practical use of exposed concrete & clean futuristic lines.
Brutalism was a very popular architectural style in the 1970's 8)

I like older styles of architecture, in general. I find the craftsmanship amazing. It's an art form. There is a humanity in older architecture styles that more modern ones don't seem to capture.

Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Gothic, Romanesque, Victorian and some Islamic styles. But I also like refurbished industrial objects or furniture, which is more of an interior design quirk than architecture.

When I scanned the previous responses I didn't see anyone mention, ancient architecture styles. I find ruins fascinating.

Modernism (not necessarily Brutalism).

I like Brutalism when the buildings are well-maintained. It's just that there's more to modernist architecture than Brutalism.

I guess any building that isn't well maintained eventually doesn't look as good as it did when it opened. Every building eventually loses its original luster over the years and needs renewal sooner or later. Some once state of the art Brutalist buildings from the 60's and 70's can end up looking like sooty darkened concrete tombs today.

However I particularly like Brutalism, over other modernist architecture, because of its practicality and cost effectiveness through use of "down to earth" concrete, while attempting to be soaring and "futuristic" at the same time. Kind of like, it aims high while being low.

There are some failed Brutalist structures, but when it is done well, it looks appealing, at least to me. :)

Gothic, Mayan, Egypto-Nubian, and Dravidian architecture all look really cool in my opinion.

Among Western styles, I'm a huge fan of the Craftsman style, particularly the Greene & Greene's - think "Gamble House".

That said, in terms of total style, I'm a great fan of the minimalism of traditional Japanese architecture and furnishings.

For me, I like the clean feeling of both, and agree with William Morris, of Arts & Crafts fame - "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

I have little knowledge of architecture, but I generally like the Bauhaus style, which I believe is part of modernism. I love Van der Rohe's buildings.

Also, Gothic. The Kölner Dom is just amazing.

Brandon SP - Nice photos. I see those photos and wonder why they built things the way they did. Like the one with the spiky protrusions, are they decoration or were they some sort of built-in defence?
