Try to hang with them separately & remove yourself if they start at it.

Your best bet is to try to stay out of it. You can try to mediate that... but it's extremely difficult at best.

I had that experience in high school. Unfortunately I kept calling each by the other one's name by mistake.

If they swing at each other, it would be best to try and pull one of them with you and then take that person with you to talk to them. I would them tell them that it is not worth it to try and fight physically if that person doesn't happen to like them and tell them that sometimes two people just don't match and this sounds just like that.

I got that too. Thankfully in my case we only know one another online.
I am not burning my fingers on that one any more. I will let them sort it out by themselves(or not) and try to avoid the subject.
