It is difficult to connect with something you want to kill.
But yes, the muteness and predictability of nature is certainly comforting.
Nature will never snap at you because you used an annoying tone.
And if it does, you eat it.

I love that quote. :P

And PunkyKat–the NTs weren't being stupid. They didn't know you're better with animals, and there's always a chance it will bite you. They won't let anyone touch it because in America, the real idiots like to sue people's asses off. So don't call the shop people stupid, call the people who do things like sue McDonalds for having coffee that's too hot stupid.

I neglected to address part of the original question. I would rather be alone in nature than be in a social situation in a building. I have spent many hours enjoying nature alone. I do like sharing nature with one select person or a very few select people. I do share Thoreau's enjoyment of solitude in nature. He did eventually return to civilization. I would hate to be limited to only solitude or only sharing. If I had to choose, I would choose sharing with the stipulations above.

I don't feel like I am, but I apparently am. My sister wanted her cat to live at her apartment instead of at home this semester, so she brought her down. It was a very rough transition; the cat stayed up all night meowing, and during the day it hid under the furniture and refused to come out. I spent the night at her apartment one night while she was out of town, and after she came back she said that the cat was already behaving so much better (still not well enough for the relocation to work out, though), just from me spending the night once. All I did was pet it and have it fall asleep on my legs, and I know my sister was also giving it lots of attention. So I have no idea why I was able to calm the cat down, but I was.

Yeah, it would be nice to move out into the country with someone you're in a relationship with.

I love nature. I love being outdoors. Ever since I was a baby I've gone camping in the summer with my parents. I love coastal environments. I did not realize how much I loved coastal environments till I started working at Assateage Island National Seashore in Maryland in the summers starting summer 2011. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but down on Maryland's Eastern Shore is where my heart actually is. When I leave I almost feel incomplete. There is something about the ocean, sand dunes, and saltwater marshes that calls to my soul. But I always feel better, even when I'm sick, when I'm outside.
