I'm extremely sensitive to spicy food. My mouth can't stand it. I have to avoid capsaicin like the plague. I could never figure out why before. But I'm writing a paper on gluten-free, casein-free diet, and I got onto the subject of hypersensitivity. I was pondering intensified flavor, and it occurred to me. Maybe THAT'S why I can detect the minutest traces of spiciness. As a kid, I couldn't stand shirt tags either. Anybody else got this problem? Answer in the poll.

I said hypersensitive & sensitive to spices, but honestly, their may be spices I'm okay with. I just haven't really found any .

I love spicy food. I should probably cut the spice down a little, though.

Both. Even mint is too hot for me, and chillies are way too hot.....sometimes I'll tolerate a dash of pepper but it's almost a homeopathic dose.

I'm only moderately sensitive otherwise though. Don't like pressure on my skin from clothes, I have to dress purely for comfort unless it's for a very short time. Also sensitive to air quality, temperature, some sounds and smells. I've never compared my sensitivities to those of neurotypicals though.

I'm hypersensitive to texture (I only eat rough textured foods), but I actually really enjoy spicy food. I like the feeling in my mouth.

I'm spicy-sensitive, and I don't like spicy hot foods. I'm also hypersensitive to sounds.

Sensory sensitivity is one of the hallmarks of AS. Have you also noticed you're sensitive to bright lights, loud noises, and strong smells (like perfume)?

I wear sunglasses and headphones when I go outside, and I buy underwear and t-shirts without tags in them and never wear scratchy polyester or acrylic fabrics. However, I like spicy foods, probably because I come from a part of the world with a spicy cuisine and have been building up a tolerance to it since childhood.

Not sensitive per se, but I do have Autosomal dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst syndrome.
Other than that, I'm pretty tolerant.
And thank you Ariel you gave me a great word for my essay that I hadn't considered using.

I love foods made with lots of flavours and spices. Indian food is sooooo delicious. Hot spicy doesn't always appeal to me, though I like certain types like hot sauces.

Something like 25% of the population has the Photic Sneeze Reflex (I think that's the technical term).

I love spicy food! But I'm a native Texan so I was raised on it

Shirt tags and noise don't bother me in the least. However, I'm not really a huge fan of sunlight (if I'm outside, I'm usually wearing sunglasses, but that's the cool thing to do here anyway) and I'm very, very sensitive to pain. I actually passed out in fear of getting hurt once. Yep, it was that bad.

I'm all about capsaicin. The hotter the better.
