Hm. Indeed, things can be loved without being cute.
Still I think that liking is a requirement for cuteness, though cuteness is not one for liking.
I guess the white puppy is a bit more cute, but both pictures leave my emotions fairly unstirred in this case.
In general, I'm uneasy with uncasual talk of "deserving". I think "deserve" is inconveniently ambiguous a lot of the time. I often don't know what to do with the words.
