No contest, chess is the best board game. Actually, I would say chess is the best game, period.

My favorite was BattleTech for the better part of a decade (1993 i think i started, last played around 2000 or so). Its a shame that the Warhammer and a few other designs wound up conflicting with the Robotech saga. Was one of the few games that my brothers and I got along well with . . . course we had a tendency to make these uber-mechs that build up no heat and maximized their firepower :twisted: :lol: .

Some of my favorite board games are:

. The Settlers of Catan (a 3-4 player resource-trading game that takes around an hour to play)
. Carcassonne (a 2-5 player tile game played with 8 little people-shaped pieces, one of which is placed on a score board to keep track of points)
. Twilight Imperium (although it takes hours to play one game)
. Chess (my favorite favorite out of the whole list)
. Chess 4 (four player chess)
. Domain (a simple 2 player game that is turn based)
. Stratego (a memory/strategy game)

Talisman: The Magical Quest Game.

4'th Edition and Revised 4'th Edition.

Mostly because those are the only editions I own. :oops: But I have heard that 2'nd Edition is excellent, and the primary reason that the series is so popular.

Classic Battletech is awesome. Sadly very much a niche following here in the UK compared to gamesworkshop products.

Megamek is pretty much 90% the board game converted into an easy to use freeware game with multiplayer features.
