I don't think that anyone should be able to edit the front page. With the number of users WP has and the touchiness of issues like the search for genetic markers I imagine the front page would be anarchy.

My observation about the ASAN article was against Singer before was merely an observation not an attack. I am in favor of dialog between so called "curebies" and the neurodiversity crowd. I think that there are too much misunderstanding and both sides often won't listen.

i think the article was appropriate at the time although in hindsight, I think it could have been written more tastefully. I was merely clarifying something that was posted.

And interviewing members of autism speaks is a lot different than creating "articles of understanding" in my opinion. Doing an interview is not the same thing as saying "i support everything this person is saying and I agree to stuff like that." I think ASAN would agree with me on this.

To me, I think it isabout more than the cure issue. Its the view of a number of people who view ASD people as impaired, damaged, defective- which I see as an attack on my personality, and self.

Ironic that you use "ASD" since that (as far as I know) stands for "Autism Spectrum Disorders."

When I'm trying to be careful not to offend people by referring to autism as a disorder, a disease, etc., I call it Autism Spectrum Conditions. Condition still isn't perfect, but it is better than disorder, I think.

(Although I, personally, feel that my autism has been a hindrance in my life and I do, personally, experience it as a deficit.)

I dont really know what to call it. I dont bother being PC anymore, as I figure someone will always be offended, not matter what I write. I see AS for me as being a difference, but also a disorder.. to me it is anyway.

I dont advise anyone to read the IMSAR research journals, unless you want to feel strange.

That is only the abstract and already I have learned that there are "low risk families" and "high-risk families" - a risky business, this autism... also much mentions of "mutation"...

I dont like being thrown into the "mutation" category like this but I do have a disorder after all... still creeps me out though...
