Is anyone here a member of a drama society, and acting troupe or has had experience on a stage before? I took a drama course during school and found that the whole social side to my AS practically dissipated on stage when I was playing out a role (with the exception of parts requiring intimate physical contact) and it was such a thrill to be able to act sporadically and extroverted for once. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I don't act anymore; I stopped entirely about twelve years ago, but I had been with two acting troupes in my life. I think I acted in about sixteen or seventeen productions between the two. I also stage managed one production and directed three.

I really don't like being on stage at all. I love attention and applause, which is why I perservered, but I have terrible stage fright. About half of all the shows I did were musicals (I'm a classically trained tenor), which is what prompted me to quit. I was having trouble remembering the lyrics.

My autism makes it hard to act; going out on stage is like adding another unreality to the unreality I already experience and it is just too much sensory overload.

Musical Theatre is my special interest, and I've been in several musicals and a few plays. I enjoy it because I'm a pretty good mimic and I like exploring other points of view by mimicking them and acting gives me an excuse. I ran into a bit of trouble when I didn't have anything to mimic and had to come up with the emotion on my own, but I've filed away everything I've read and seen and have a lot to draw on.

I felt the same way, it was like becoming another person for a short while, yes it was interesting but it was also therapeutic :)

I was a member of theater group (but I didn't socialise with other members).
I have some acting skills, I can become other person, but I can't use it all in real life. If I could, maybe my social skills would be better.
I usually played negative characters. I wanted to be "good one", but if I got this role, it was minor role. When I took negative role, I was main (or important) character.
I played f.e. Cindirella's Stepmother, Scrooge, SS-officer, policewoman, mother-in-law, boss of the corporation... Sweet, isn't it?

I took drama in High School, in Grade 8. It was great fun.:)
