i recently caught up on a few webcomics and was kinda sad that i ran out of stuff to laugh at. thanks for the topic, panda
those damnable carebear liberals... if only they were smart enough to understand that the entire universe (by which i refer only to living organisms on this tiny planet) is based on big fish eat small fish, they'd stfu about forcing equal opportunity and let the free market (food chain) work it out.
you know... 'cause that works....... ..... ...... about as well as soviet style communism....
there are plenty of legitimate inadequacies with which to lampoon certain (if not most) liberals. the same can be said of conservatives. libertarians don't seem to get why they get lumped in with the conservatives, by liberals, and that should provide a bit of perspective.
a slight bit more perspective, just for fun:
iamnotaparakeet: i'm not going to respond to each of your examples of how a parakeet would behave with internet access and (most of) the faculties required to make use of it. i am, however, going to respond to the kerry clip and the penn state "worrisome vet" video.
half of the running jokes of my service were pretty much different versions of that "if you don't you get stuck in iraq" line. "i should have gone to college" is what we'd say when "this f*ing blows 12-year-old cuban trannies" was an understatement (though, we did say that a lot). something tells me that anyone who served on a swiftboat in vietnam probably had similar thoughts of "making the most of my educational opportunities was probably a better idea than war."
or maybe you disagree with that sentiment.
as for the "worrisome vet" video, no. just, no. warfighting requires your brain to work in a way that is not conducive to civilian interaction. there is a real phenomenon that is the difficult transition from fighting a war to writing papers at a college.
there is a lot of support for veterans now that really wasn't there when our soldiers came back from vietnam. there is a lot more that needs to be there and isn't yet. part of that support needs to be instruction for college instructors in how to deal with that. aside from not mentioning one of the many, specific, avenues for "help" at the end of the video, it was as good as any workplace behavior video.
both of those examples got a lot of press and generated a lot of controversy, more for the sake of controversy than for the issues themselves. controversy sells. it gets websites hits, tv shows ratings, sells magazines, and even newspapers (if they're lucky). the free market, at it's best. controversial information, of which a large percentage must be inaccurate for any of it to be accurate, is worth much more money than unbiased analysis.
