Master of Puppets and Death Magnetic.

Why?

Master of Puppets will always the best metal album of the 80's and Death Magnetic signified their rebirth back into metal.

If I wanted to win favor with the "troo" metal camp, I would say Justice. But if I'm really honest with myself, I'll have to go with the black album. Regardless of what the elitists say, it WAS a metal album. Besides, it was what ultimately introduced me to Metal.

And Justice For All was the album that converted me into a Metal fan, so there ya go.

So I say ....And Justice For All

With these runner ups:

Master of Puppets
The Black album
Death Magnetic (could have been mixed better though, particularly in regards to the drums)

I saw them live twice on the And Justice For All tour, and twice on the Black album tour (once with Guns n' Roses).
I also met 3 members during the And Justice For All tour, c/o working in the retail music industry. :)

The drums didn't sound like trash cans when St. Anger was being made.

I have the CD, but downloaded the Guitar Hero III version, which dampens the drums (and has an overall muffling affect). The high treble is toned down. It's not perfect either, but I ended up keeping it over the CD version on my iTunes, particularly for the tracks in which the drums really sound off on the CD.

Definitely Master of Puppets. Nothing ever came close.
