Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer, Ronald Reagan and actor and of course George W. Bush a recovering alcoholic...........

Any other interesting ex-President occupations?

From what I've read about him, Abraham Lincoln was basically like the Chuck Norris of US Presidents.

Teddy Roosevelt. The man was a mutual friend of my mothers family.

You mean Presidents who went on to do something interesting afterward?

John Q. Adams, sixth President of the US, went on to be elected to the House of Representatives from Massachusetts, and as an attorney successfully defended the escaped slaves from the Spanish slave ship Amistad.

A few:

-The delay in getting Theodore Roosevelt sworn in after the assassination death of William McKinley was because it took authorities that long to find him - he was on a deep-woods wilderness camping trip in upstate New York at the time.

-Ronald Reagan was the only union boss ever to become President of the USA (Screen Actors Guild - 1947-1952 and 1959-1960).

-William Howard Taft was appointed to the USSupreme Court after leaving office.

Most of them were lawyers. I know Woodrow Wilson was formerly the head of a well known college.

Like Jimmy Carter, Jefferson was also a farmer.

Thank you for all these wonderful replies.

This is a much more interesting thread than I expected.

IdahoRose: I do like the picture of Abe Lincoln kicking **s (wearing his top hat)

DeaconBlues: I am finally going to watch Amistad :D

How about Bill Clinton, the one who had the affair, with Monica Lewinsky.

James A Garfield served for about 200 days before he was shot by a radical. He taught dead languages at a university before he joined the political scene.
Edit:took out the less interesting bits.

I think you will find that many if not most 'powerful' political figures (and leaders in general) have a tendency to pursue intimate physical activities with other human beings.

Clinton of course was a Rhodes Scholar (Oxford University, England).
