This actualy started on a seperate thread about Williams syndrome but ive been asked to write a thread about Newsons Syndrome

http://www.cafamily.org.uk/medicalinfor ... p13_2.html : PDAS/Newsons Syndrome

Newsons Syndrome, Otherwise known as Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome, is a pervasive developmental disorder that scientests reckon is similar but not the same to autism. People with this condition have social empathy but they do not have social skills. Because of this they often decide to avoid any form of social demand, but feel the need to do so in a social manner.

http://www.tigersurvey.com/survey.php?survey=6668 : 'Newsons Syndrome Survey', I scored suprisingly low on this

I understand that it's a seperate condition but the behaviors look too similar to the way autism is known to manifest itself in a large population of girls diagnosed with it later in life to me. Rather than having so many different labels I wish that the criteria for autism would be researched more and perhaps widened a little, I am all for the idea of using a scale when DXing autism, and assigning the person DXd a number or something else to symbolize the severity. I also have no problem with the AS label being discontinued. If I were DX with AS right now I wouldn't mind being labeled as autistic, I think using the term "autistic:" for more people would help spread awareness and help people to understand what autism is and is not..

my daughter who is 12 has an autism diagnosis and the psychologist said she also has PDA. It made a lot of sence when I found out about PDA.
