In your view, what really happened on Sunday morning?

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

a) Alien angels appeared from space and opened the tomb in Jerusalem and used their advanced medicine knowledge to revive and restore Jesus so Jesus was able to walk out of the tomb the same way a person could walk out a wheelchair at an Oral Roberts/Benny Hinn religious service.

b) Humans opened the tomb and found Jesus's body and removed it. At some other location, they were able to revive Jesus but the revival lasted for only forty days. Jesus was able to survive until a time of ascension when he spoke his last words, died, and his followers cremated his body so there would be no DNA samples left (the Ascension).

c) Other.

Resurrections as described in movies:

ET (movie)
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (movie)
The Mummy Returns (movie)

c) Other. What really happened is unknown and unknowable at this point. Our only references are Christian, and part of one of the issues is whether Paul in 1 Cor 15 (verses 36 to 54) is really agreeing with the Gospel story, or whether his writings present the body of glory as being a spiritual entity rather than a bodily resurrection, as some have argued that Paul really isn't talking about a physical resurrection in those passages.

If one says that Paul corroborates, or the meaning is uncertain, then we can't know. If we say that Paul is talking about a spiritual entity having risen, then we have reason to believe that there was no bodily resurrection, and that the bodily resurrection of Jesus was just a later myth.

(EDIT: I know, some people will accuse me of having a double standard. Part of the issue is that I am skeptical towards miracle claims. The other part is that a major inconsistency brings up more problems with a particular view than a few minor inconsistencies and a view that we have reasons to be skeptical of.)

Awesomelyglorious - I agree. One way of looking at what happened is that Jesus Christ died and was buried in a cemetery tomb for a day or so. Then the body was discovered missing. Then Jesus was viewed as being a walking and talking gardener outside of the tomb. That storyline was expanded to something called the Ascension where Jesus took a long escalator ride into the sky and that's the last time he was seen by humans.

It's a story; what happened is what it said happened. Imagine asking "What *really* happened when Frodo arrived with the ring at the cracks of Mount Doom?" You can interpret both events in many ways, but asking "what really happened" seems to suggest that they are some sort of mere historical record, incomplete maybe, perhaps inaccurate, like a news headline. Oddly enough there are people who treat TLOTR like that. :)

Did you in fact want to hear people's *interpretations* of the resurrection metaphor, what we think that it "means"? ( whether that is an alien visitation, or some thing else )

A starship came into orbit of earth and beamed the body up, they were peaceful enough to not destroy the primitive earth (sadly) for having barbariously killed their friend.

c) Bastardisation of a word-of-mouth story, later addition by historians, pure fabrication, mistranslation, etc.

I suspect that the current Bible (2010) is kind of like the difference between:

a) the Wizard of Oz book by L. Frank Baum (silver slippers)

and

b) the Wizard of Oz movie with Judy Garland (ruby slippers)

aka substantial changes, amendments, pure fabrication, invented translations, and so on.

The guards were bribed to bring him down before his death, followers and family rescued him from the tomb and he died a few days later from his injuries/infection.

Some extremist, anti-science religious denominations thought the Bible said the sun revolved around the earth and harshly punished accurate astronomers like Gailileo for saying just the opposite.
