I planned to start running this summer to get in shape for cross country. I was unable to get shoes until 3 weeks ago and the first practice is next week. I can only run about 1.5 miles without stopping, but the coach said that we should be able to run 4 miles. Is it worth showing up to the practice, or should I wait until next year?

Just keep practicing!
You will know when you are ready. Remember- always follow your dreams.
Show up for practice and maybe the coach will work with you.

Definetly go to it, I used to love cross country, just do what you can then walk what you have to, some is better than none I think, and its still training, even better as its in the right enviroment. You'll notice more animals n stuff aswell as the sounds.

I ran three seasons when I was in high school and experienced quite a number of benefits: obviously over time you will get better (do something during the rest of the year to maintain yourself), it keeps you in shape, finishing feels awesome when the people cheer for you, practicing doesn't require any special equipment, and it's something you can do on your own when you're older and go by your own rules.

Ultimately, it's your call. I didn't regret it.

if you are only running 1.5 miles you need to slow your pace down untill you can gradualy build it up as for going to the 4 mile run then you should definatly turn up, the coach is their to hel and guide you, through any and all running training, askk for Advice on running methods and diet use.

good luck.

practice. If you can find a (fun) running club near you, join it and run with them. I know I wasn't much of a runner but now I can run a 5k with some stoppage in 30-45 minutes.
