This is not what aliens will look like.

They will probably look much more like this:

I believe that the vast majority of life is like that, but that some planets that are perfect or nearly perfect like our Earth will have complex organisms like us. This does not necesarily mean that those planets have to be just like Earth. Maybe they could have life completely different from ours, and yet complex life all the same.

purely on a statistical basis there is simply no chance that there are no other intelligent beings in the universe. in a book by stephen dole (habitable planets for manm freely downloadable from the publisher, rand corp.), he gets to the conclusion that there must be at least one planet that can support human life in a bubble with a diametre of about 50ly.

the real issue in meeting them is perhaps not the space factor, but rather the time factor.

and it really doesn't matter if you believe in aliens or not. they exist even if you don't believe in them. this is not a question of belief.

Please explain this. I never understood how we can assume probability with that kind of thing when we have never surveyed any other planet besides our own. What numbers are we working with?

What I think he means is that we cannot travel at or above the speed of light. With today's tech, it would take us hundreds of thousands of years to reach somewere 75 lightyears away. We'd need to be able to essentialy time travel to travel past the speed of light and that could be theoretically achieved by manmade wormholes, essentially a shortcut in space.

It is somewhat easier to believe in the existence of Aliens than to believe that the US Government is not bankrupt :?

So on THAT basis alone, I guess my answer would be yes (or at least a definite maybe)

Such as?

I'm skeptical about alien life, I lean more towards "yes" due to the sheer magnitude of existence but there's no proof either way.

To quote Beavis & ButtHead  "I believe in Mexicans"
It wouldn't surprise me if aliens do exist but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't either
