The only real data I have about autism and religion is from bloggers, so I wanted to get some actual responses. Tell me what your experience was.

Also, if you are so inclined: what religion were you raised in, if any? Do you now follow a different faith than the one you were raised in? If so, why?

That stuff wouldn't fit in the poll question box.

I wasn't raised as anything, my family weren't particularly religious although we were probably most closely aligned to Buddhism for cultural reasons.

Long story short but I did have a close brush with the Jehovah's Witnesses as a child, it was a bit messy and I'm glad they didn't stay too long in my life.

I would probably myself currently as being something of a pagan - I do some tarot and astrology readings, I believe in the concept of energy flowing throughout the world, and I touch on a bit of nature worship.

I am an atheist and i've always been at least agnostic. Therefore, i'm not sure what kind of experiences you'd like to know about coming from atheists/agnostics.

My parents are secular though the term areligious may fit them better. The issue of religion never really came up when I was growing up.

Even my grandparents were more or less secular even though my paternal ones were nominally Catholic.

My maternal grandfather is a jewish atheist or a "non-observant jew" if you prefer.

I personally have a great interest in esoteric spirituality and i've read
quite a bit about the occult and mysticism.

I take all that with a major grain of salt as well though.

I am quite hostile to dogmatic religions of any sort and I suppose I could be defined as an anti-theist or a "strident atheist".

The concept of a personal god with all these "omni" qualities is pretty
revolting to me considering the world that we live in.

I don't think less of most religious people though...they have their reasons for believing as they do and most are no less well-intentioned and intelligent than anybody else.

Surely some are a**holes....but they would be a**holes if they were atheists too.

I'm closest to atheist or agnostic, so I voted that.

I actually don't discount the existence of a higher power entirely, but I don't believe in God in the sense that members of Christianity, or any other labeled religions would. I believe that God is the mathematics and physics that make the universe work. Whether or not those are a product of intelligence, I don't know. That's why I'm not 100% atheist.

I was raised Catholic, and I currently attend a Protestant Christian church. However, I really only go because I like the music and the community. I don't really consider myself a Christian. I would consider myself agnostic - I believe generally in a god, but I don't know who or what that looks like, and I honestly don't really think it matters.

I have my own religion based partly on
Christianity but with an ancient Egyptian
twist, I believe All Felines
are a sacred symbol of The Creator
who takes the form of the Earth creature
known as The Lion.

Other than this, it isn't my business to
advertise my beliefs to anyone except
those who ask me direcly, and even
thenm they must make the decision for
themselves what they wish to believe in,
from there, it is up to them.

I was raised Anglican.

I am athiest / agnostic.

Why? The scientific way of thinking just always made sense to me. Better suit.

I'd just like to note that "agnostic" is not exclusive with religions or atheism. One can be an agnostic atheist, or an agnostic Christian. People that are agnostic do not claim to know their belief is correct. For example, you can believe in the Christian god, but not think that his existence is an irrefutable fact.

I'm an agnostic atheist, and I voted as such.

The ratio of atheists/agnostics to Christians deeply saddens me, but at the same time doesn't surprise me at all.

As for me, I'm Catholic. I was raised that way and I will continue to be that way until I die.

Christian i guess i'd have to say.

but not in a die-hard-i'm-going-to-try-to-cram-a-bible-down-your-throat sort of way  .
if people don't believe, that's their business, not mine.

I've also heard good things about Buddhism. Which btw isn't a religion  . It has no deities, nor idols and doesn't conflict with any other religion as far as i know. It's really more of just a way of life. Like i could prolly be both Buddhist and Christian if i wanted to. I've already read Siddartha (Pretty good book :) ) some of the Buddhist writings, and it all sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I would have to say other. I have mixed beliefs. Some Buddhism, some Christianity.
