I'm going to go with Scientology.

The way I see it, that particular cult has almost no supporters except for those who have already, "drunk the Kool-Aid."

@greenblue: Islam is all over the world, so even if its center is in the east, it is also in the west.

I also vote for scientology.

There are some shady religions out there, and some of them have shady and self-serving people who start them, but I think the fact that the originator of this one said that starting a religion was a good way to make money is pretty damning.

If he meant otherwise then why would he include it and shinto and buddhism and other such eastern religions. What he meant was the perception of those religions under western judgement.

Yes, but Jacoby said: "their values are so different from our western values." implying that the reference was towards middle east islam rather than western islam.

Scientology really isn't a religion in the normal sense. It's really a way to extort money from people that has some religious sounding gobbledygook attached to it. If Scientology is excluded, I would say that the most hated religion that is actually a religion with tenets and theology is Wahhabi Islam, the type of Islam the Taliban follow. Next would be standard Sunni and Shi'a Islam, since there is much confusion.

Yes, that could be most likely the case, I initially thought it was "most disliked religion in the Western World" rather than "most disliked religion in the Western World".

There are religions centered outside of the West that are practiced in the West. Islam for example.

How could anyone put scientology down? If it weren't for them I wouldn't be where I am today...without TV, airconditioning, running water. It's taught me how umimportant the value of possession is.

Scientology really isn't a religion. It's kind of a joke that it's considered one really since the only reason they claim that is for tax exemption. It's more of a "self help" pyramid scheme. If people actually get something out of it more power to them but it seems it's taking advantage of vulnerable people.
