21st Century Schizoid Man.

The lyrics are pretty disjointed, but the ones that make sense are of alienation, and the music backs it up. It's how my mind feels.

I just like the word schizoid, and the way I feel alienated fits the description of schizoid personality at times, so I use it as my username.

I am a question to the world, [I'm to different to be understood]
Not an answer to be heard [I can't communicate]
Or a moment that's held in your arms. [I wish people would embrace me but they only like social and successful people]
And what do you think you'd ever say? [Words won't change my autism or stuttering]
I won't listen anyway… [I've heard it all before anyways]
You don't know me, [My life is too different for others to get me]
And I’ll never be what you want me to be. [I can't change certain things about myself. Even if I wanted to.]

And what do you think you'd understand? [My experiences are too different for others to get]
I'm a boy, no, I'm a man.. [I'm an adult now]
You can't take me and throw me away.
And how can you learn what's never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own.
They don't know me 'cause I'm not here. [I'm inside myself. I don't know how to be anything else.]

And I want a moment to be real, [Life doesn't feel real.]
Wanna touch things I don't feel, [I want to be close to people because I never feel like I am.]
Wanna hold on and feel I belong. [I keep going on in life to maybe someday belong.]
And how can the world want me to change?
They’re the ones that stay the same. [Everyone expects me to be like them when it's not possible for me to do that.]
They don’t know me,
'Cause I’m not here.

And you see the things they never see [Sometimes a person sees parts of me others can't.]
All you wanted, I could be [I'd like to be the friend they want]
Now you know me, and I'm not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man? [Can you help me be real?]
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am [The world can't destroy you if you never forget who you are.]

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change?
They’re the ones that stay the same.
They can’t see me, [Others don't see me for who I am. Most don't even try.]
But I’m still here. [Regardless I'm still here.]

They can’t tell me who to be,
‘Cause I’m not what they see. [I'm more than they think.]
Yeah, the world is still sleepin’,
While I keep on dreamin’ for me. [My life is daydreams.]
And their words are just whispers
And lies that I’ll never believe. [How can I believe when they say I'll be normal someday? I know I won't.]

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can they say I never change?
They’re the ones that stay the same.
I’m the one now,
‘Cause I’m still here [Even if the world never cares I'll still be here, being myself, the only me I know how to be.]

I’m the one,
‘Cause I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December,
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me,
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain,
And an island never cries.

S&G, 1966

About a year ago I was obsessed with “Realiti” by Grimes

I loved how dense, layered and textured it is. And at the end it just sounds like her entire soul is crying in frustration. And when I listen to that song I feel like my body and spirit is in 7 different dimensions.

There was a 6 month period when I listened to it every day at least twice a day because it gave me a cathartic release.

I typically don't pay much attention to song lyrics, but these tell a simple truth:

I don’t do yoga, never tried Pilates
Not many people want me at their parties
Tryna find my place, some place, oh I, oh I, oh I
I drink a little more than recommended
This world ain’t exactly what my heart expected
Tryna find my way someway, oh I, oh I, oh I

See, whoa, c’est la vie
Maybe something’s wrong with me
But, whoa, at least I am free, I am free

If you ask the church then I am no believer
Spend Sundays asleep I'm just another dreamer
Still tryna find my home sweet home, oh I, oh I, oh I
I guess I ain’t too good for money either
I got two left feet, no, I'm no Jackson neither
Just tryna find my way someway, oh I, oh I, oh I

See, whoa, c’est la vie
Maybe something’s wrong with me
But, whoa, at least I am free, oh, oh, I am free

Except I did try pilates once ;)

I've got to cheat and name a whole album, Green by R.E.M. I've felt so utterly attached since I first heard it, and only somewhat recently I realized the whole thing screams ND. I relate to each and every song in a specific, intense way.

Tbh I identify with most of R.E.M.'s catalog, especially their early- and mid-period work. Their debut album alone (Murmur) is flush with themes of troubled communication, just like my life. ^_^

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah

I have two and they may appear very different from each other in genre but I feel like they have some overlapping themes of being an outsider and knowing that you are on your own.
