That's a sad story. My stepmother is a hoarder and I often fear we will find that something like that has happened to her.

This is awful. I wonder how she died in there. I hope she didn't have a stroke or something and just lingered on for days before dying in all of that.

a lot of us hoarding singletons, as we age, are susceptible to a similar fate, as lots of us know nobody who cares about us sufficient to check in on us now and then.

There was a TV series about people like that.

One guy even kept his own poop and urine in containers because he couldn't bring himself to throw anything away. Even that.

My mom also has this disease. I've tried and tried to help her clean and get rid of things but she just can't let go. She's also got full blown depression worse than me. Everyone time I tell her what can't kill you will make you stronger, she tells me she'd prefer death

My mom has this too, though she's never gotten *quite* as bad as some of the extreme cases I've heard about. Still, when she moved houses a few years ago, it was like pulling teeth trying to get her to throw things out from the old house - evne stuff she hadn't touched in decades and would probably never have a need for the rest of her life.

Many AS people may be affected by this. I know I have a tendency, so I limit my collections. The problem is with some objects to which i attach emotional significance. Recognition of this tendency is invaluable for me to limit accumulation of attachment objects, especially paper representations. If I can find it online or take a photo, the object is discarded/recycled.

I'm afraid that this type of thing could happen to me.
