Steven Moffat, showrunner for Doctor Who has promised a big game changing event due to the fact that the 6th Series has been split 7-6 and the gap in blocks will be due to said event. Speculation anyone?

No thoughts on the specifics, but I think it is probably to drive ratings by having double 'finales.' I'm not enthused by the restructuring.

This is a very common scheme in America. I find it sad the BBC is letting Moffat stoop to this level.

I'm going to make a bold prediction and guess that it's going to turn out that River Song is actually the Kandyman in disguise.

"Hello, sweetie," indeed.

It's being rumored that the game changer will be the death of Amy Pond and the break will be needed to recover from it.

That sucks if it's true.

No, I'm fairly certain it's going to involve River Song. Not the death of River Song, mind, but I think we're going to find out who exactly the man was that she killed (and if I recall correctly, she did say that she killed a "man" and not a "person").

I assumed that she killed the doctor that she first met.

I'm very interested in seeing where they're going with River Song. She is one of the best new additions to the Who Universe I've seen in quite a while. And I've been watching the show for a long time.

That'd be my first guess, too, but I really hope Matt Smith doesn't regenerate. I love him in the role and want to see him for at least three whole seasons.

My read of the weeping angels episode was that River Song thought she had in fact killed the Doctor, but not the Matt Smith Doctor--rather, the final incarnation. If that's true, then I'd take this to mean that her attempt was unsuccessful, and the Valeyard (i.e., the Twelfth Doctor) is back to serve as villain for series 7:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valeyard

Notice the potential hints in this season: the malevolent Doctor in "Amy's Choice," and the throwaway comment in "The Hungry Earth" about Amy and Rory meeting their future selves.

This isn't to say that the Valeyard won't commit a little homicide along the way, but my guess would be that it's River Song who gets the axe, given her history with him.

Matt Smith has indicated he's on board until at least 2013. My suspicion is that they'll resolve the Valeyard storyline in a way that gives the Doctor an indefinite number of regenerations.

Cheers,

TH

The problem is, does anyone, other than hardcore fans, really care about the Valeyard? Does anybody besides us even remember "Trial of a Time Lord?" I don't think they'll be bringing back (by the public's standards) obscure villains like that.

Exactly. The big selling point wouldn't be "oh wow, it's the Valeyard," but rather it's "oh wow, it's the Doctor's future regeneration and he's evil."

Cheers,
