It's been a long time since I've had a hurricane come anywhere close to me. Although it's still looking to just skirt past me in Virginia. Maybe I'll get some wind and rain tomorrow. It's got me a bit excited... but not too much.

Anyone here going to affected by it?

I live too far away, but I'm interested in the event going on.

It's not going to affect me because I live on the West Coast, but I'm going to hope and pray that it doesn't turn into a repeat of Hurricane Katrina.

It's really the only hurricane that has me worried. I still have family on Nantucket, where it's going to come close. I mean, even though i don't like him, I'm still concerned for my uncle's well being.

I'm in southeastern Virginia, so we're likely to have one of the arms of Earl "touch" us. I'm not too worried, though. Both my husband and I have noticed that weather has a peculiar pattern of... diminishing... when it passes directly over this area. Some say it's because of the bay.
But anyways... maybe we'll get a few fallen branches, some higher-than-normal flooding, a bit of wind damage. Nothing too serious.
If the road conditions aren't too bad, we plan to go to a parking garage on the oceanfront, go to a safe area outside and feel the whipping winds. Delightful!

Ever since '04, I have felt uneasy when storms are imminent. Mostly they pass over North Central Florida, though.

I live in NC so we are getting some of it. I'm at work in the break room right now. I can't believe walmart didn't close for it. There are actually a lot of shoppers here too. Oh well, at least they are giving us doughnuts in the break room. A lot of employees called out so there are just two of us in electronics. Uhhhg. My dad is picking me up in case it's really bad when I leave at 10:30. Hopefully we won't blow away. Lol. But seriously, I've been through a ton of these and it's not too big a deal.

Looks like it's just going to skim past the east coast, and not actually make landfall with the eye. I guess it's still bad, but what's more concerning is what'll happen to boston and what not.

I live in north Texas, and my area never gets any hurricanes. However, I have noticed a lot of cloudy, rainy days lately. I guess I live too far away to actually experience the storm, but close enough to feel its "ripple" effects.

I'm in Wyoming, so a hurricane here would be probably a sign of the end of time.

Most of my life I've usually just avoided the severe storms. I was living in Florida but on vacation in Maine when Hurricane Andrew hit (too young to remember details). I was also on vacation in Missouri when Memphis got hit by "Hurricane Elvis" (not a real hurricane, but it was nicknamed such because it had straight-line winds in excess of 75 mph). Boy was that fun cleaning up when I got back. I also missed the storm in Memphis last summer that caused the Loosahatchie to spill it's banks, creating what my friends back home called "Lake Arlington." (My friend was in Nashville attending the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention when it hit, he had to stay an extra day because of flooding).

The only time I was ever in a hurricane was when Katrina hit. Katrina was so strong that after making New Orleans look like the lost city of Atlantis, it swept up the Mississippi River and was still a Class I hurricane when it hit Memphis (it may have just been downgraded to a tropical storm at the time). I spent that whole night awake and tuned in to the weather radio. Scary, but fun.

I got nothing where I was. All of it was just to the east of me though. Bleh. :P

Looks like Eastern Massachusetts and Nova Scotia still have it coming though.

All we got was a little bit of rain and barely any wind, like a regular rain shower. It was a huge disappointment. But at least there were no damages and nobody got hurt. :)

We didn't even get that! (Thank God!)

TROPICAL STORM EARL DISCUSSION NUMBER 43
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL072010
1100 PM EDT SAT SEP 04 2010

OVER THE PAST FEW HOURS THE WIND FIELD OF EARL HAS BECOME
INCREASINGLY ELONGATED AND THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE NOW WELL REMOVED
FROM THE CENTER. DRY AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE LARGE UPPER TROUGH
INTERACTING WITH EARL HAS BEEN ENTRAINED THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
SEMICIRCLE OF THE CYCLONE. ALSO...THE EASTERN PORTION OF EARL/S
CIRCULATION IS NOW INVOLVED WITH A FRONTAL ZONE. BASED ON ALL
OF THIS...EARL IS NOW DECLARED POST-TROPICAL...AND THIS WILL BE THE
LAST NHC ADVISORY ON EARL. THE INITIAL INTENSITY IS HELD AT 55 KT
BASED ON SURFACE OBSERVATIONS. WEAKENING IS EXPECTED AS EARL
COMPLETES THE EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION PROCESS.

THE FORWARD SPEED HAS CONTINUED TO INCREASE...AND IS NOW 030/40.
THE GLOBAL MODELS ARE IN RELATIVELY GOOD AGREEMENT ON THE TRACK OF
POST-TROPICAL EARL NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS LABRADOR AND INTO THE
ATLANTIC OVER THE NEXT DAY OR SO. EARL WILL THEN MOVE SLOWLY
NORTHWARD AND NORTHWESTWARD FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT BECOMES A
VERTICALLY STACKED COLD CORE CYCLONE BEFORE ACCELERATING EASTWARD
ACROSS THE NORTH ATLANTIC AND DISSIPATING IN 4 OR 5 DAYS. THE
OFFICIAL FORECAST IS BASED ON A BLEND OF THE GFS AND ECMWF.

EARL IS STILL PRODUCING TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF
ATLANTIC CANADA. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON POST-TROPICAL EARL IN
CANADA...SEE PRODUCTS FROM ENVIRONMENT CANADA.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON POST-TROPICAL EARL CAN BE FOUND IN HIGH
SEAS FORECASTS ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE...UNDER AWIPS
HEADER NFDHSFAT1 AND WMO HEADER FZNT01 KWBC.

I'm at Wards Corner. We had a hand full of rain drops that hit my kitchen window and that's about all I noticed of it. That last Noreaster we had stalling on us was a wicked storm. Earl reminded me of Gloria.
