Top American officials apologized on Friday as they revealed an experiment conducted in the 1940s in which United States government medical researchers deliberately infected Guatemalan prison inmates, soldiers and mental patients with syphilis.

Looks like some people learned a few things from Nazi and Japanese experimentations from the years prior...

Not a proud moment for the US of A.

This is only one example of many, many such things.

In the 1950's the CIA went around dosing people with LSD to see what would happen.

They fed radioactive milk to orphans to see what would happen.

Throughout the 1950's and 60's they exposed thousands of soldiers to atomic explosions to see what would happen in an atomic war.

At this moment they are using depleted uranium weapons not only in Iraq and Afghanistan but on many training bases within America.

Never mind that the people of Iraq have a huge cancer rate and an enormous number of deformed babies.

Never mind that our soldiers are coming home to die and have deformed babies.

This is beyond evil. This is almost beyond belief, except that it is really happening.

Overseen by the same Doctor.
Quote:
In a twist to the revelation, the public health doctor who led the experiment, John C. Cutler, would later have an important role in the Tuskegee study in which black American men with syphilis were deliberately left untreated for decades. Late in his own life, Dr. Cutler continued to defend the Tuskegee work.

absolute power corrupts absolutely.

a group from central kentucky just left to run a free veterinary clicic in rural guatemala. oh man, i hope they will be safe. i remember a few years ago when the rumor was running rampant that aid workers were stealing babies. some of the nurses were hurt and one was hacked to death. rural guatemala is a tough place.

This is sad. :( I have a few Guatamalan friends up here who immigrated to Canada and they are really nice people.

unfortunately this kind of conduct still exists in the pharmaceutical industry. in 1996, the drug company, pfizer, was brought to court for experimenting on Nigerians without proper informed consent, resulting in the death of 11 children and several adults being crippled.

what is so difficult about corporations acting responsibly :?:
