He's actually a really good songwriter and not that shabby of a singer either!

I always found him interesting, him as a person and the way he thinks, not the killings.

I didn't even know that he was a musician. You learn something new, every day.

I'm going to side with the "It's OK" crowd on this one. He has a few good tunes but he's not quite a Syd Barrett, Neil Young, or Skip Spence.

Charles Manson Family member Bobby Beausoleil, who really did kill people, has also made some music. Again, for me, it's just OK.

It's about average. It's OK to listen to, but I would have any desire to purchase it. That could simply be due to my taste in music.

I love some of his songs a lot.

Look at Your Game Girl
Home is Where You're Happy
Swamp Girl

He had a beautiful voice. It's too bad he didn't find a living as a musician instead.

his music is reasonably well performed and reasonably well composed, but it is superficial and is not dynamic in it's fundamental construct.

it is kind of like "mood" music rather than an imaginary trip into new musical designs.

that is my opinion, and i am not saying my appraisal is gospel.

i am surprised that he is so cogent in a superficial musical sense.

@jpfudgeworth My understanding was Manson targeted that particular house because the music producer who rejected his

music lived there. I haven't listened to your samples but I have listened to Manson's music before and thought it was dreck. It may

have just been my mood at the time though.

He originally was an aspiring musician.

what? Brilliant? Why do people say this about charles? His music is horrible. In fact, if his music was good then he would have gotten that record deal and he wouldn't have had to do what he did.

I don't think that he 'had' to do anything of the sort.

Right, he didn't commit those crimes because he got rejected from a record deal. If you've ever read about his early days you'll discover that he was a menacing, abusive psychopath even before his dreams of being a musician fell to the wayside.

The OP is really only liking Manson because of the shock value?

I don't know... don't like that kind of music.

I have The Family Jams downloaded, was interesting and a little spooky on some of the tracks, there defiantly was some talent there

Manson's song writing abilities were actually quite respected by many musicians in the sixties, before the murders. The problem is, he was, and is, a lunatic, far removed from reality.

In the music industry the truth is that personality and interpersonal skills count far more than musical talent. Manson, as spoken of by the few celebrities who admit to having known him, was clearly off balance long before the murders. People could sense there was something not quite right with him. That, in essence, is why he never got a record deal. That, in fact, is why he reacted the way he did to being rejected by the industry.

The bottom line is, he's a sick and twisted individual gone way beyond repair.
