I don't think viewing free childhood pornography is that awful of a crime, but the representation and associations with it are awful. I hate how Asperger's Syndrome might be further associated with such crimes and behaviour in the media.

I'm not familiar with Dr. Dubin however, so I assume he isn't all that well-known which is a plus.

It does mean the man's a pedophile... whether he's actually hurt a child, we don't know. For all we know, the porn may be an outlet for him. But it's telling that he's working at a high school.

As I've said about a dozen times, though, AS people are not immune from making bad choices; nor does AS make us any more likely to make those choices (unless it prevents us from getting all the information and making them unknowingly--and in the cases of crime, it almost never does). I forget the exact study, but autism doesn't affect a person's ethics or his compassion--just his "mirroring" style empathy. In general we are equivalent to NT as far as moral decision-making goes (the discrepancy in criminal behavior--autistics commit fewer crimes--can, I feel, be explained mostly by the fact that most crimes are a social activity, and all crimes are uncomfortably unpredictable.)

Child porn is very bad, but if the only news source which suggests that a man has been arrested or charged with a child porn crime is a blog then I would not jump to judge the man.

How do you know if it is not a nasty person who has chosen to libel the man. I would advise you to use a printed news paper or court papers to check if he has been busted or not for child porn before you choose to speak out against him. I think that before we drag this man down into the mud we should trace the story back to the origin.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Well, it looks like ClickOnDetroit is sponsored by one of the local television channels, but I can contact an acquaintance in the area to learn how trustworthy a source this is, and whether he's heard anything about it in the local news media...

Isn't it a matter of public record when someone is charged with a crime? Or is that only convictions?

Hey all,

At GRASP, We're really saddened, and surprised by the news of Dr. Nick Dubin's arrest. But Dr. Dubin resigned from our Board some time ago. He is not affiliated with GRASP.

If the news reports turn out to be accurate, then Dr. Dubin has made a terrible mistake (be it ethical, psychological, or practical). But it would also be an indication that Dr. Dubin is in great need. Our hope is that he gets the help necessary to someday regain what was once a very promising life.

Someone with access to children watching childporn will sooner or later will molest a child if an oppertunity arises if that the person is sure they could get away with it. Just viewing child porn should be enough to land someone in jail in my opinion. The only way I would let someone off the hook for having it on their computer is if a computer virus or a website pop up put on the computer and they could show the virus or web pop up in action in court. "I don't think viewing free childhood pornography is that awful of a crime" give me a break, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm sorry, I don't understand that logic. Is someone who views pornography under the age of 18 (hence, illegal) going to sexually assault someone when the opportunity arises? But I'd rather this not turn into a debate on childhood pornography.

The idea that a person who views child porn is always going to then sexually tamper with a child in person is not correct, but for child porn to be made children have to be sexually exploited. So anyone who voluntarily views child porn is a party to an assault on a child or may even be encouraging further sexual crimes against children. So on for this reason alone child porn crimes must be treated with great gravity.

I feel very sorry for police and other law enforcement officers who have to view child porn so that it is possible to confirm to a court that the person did have child porn. If one of two pictures appeared on a PC which appear to have been downloaded by web software without a wilful act on the part of the user then I would not think that action is needed, but when a person has downloaded a vast cache of dirty pictures of children and is also a supplier of this vile muck to others then strong action is needed.

Furthermore some studies have shown that porn changes a person's thought processes and standards. There is a danger that after exposure to child porn that a person might think it morally normal to have sexual contact with children. This is another reason why child porn should remain banned.

Even if the second hypothesis is found to be incorrect, as child porn brings no benefits to society I saw we should ban it as based on the balance between cost and benefits it has a very nasty cost to some of the most vulnerable in society while bringing no benefits to society.

Kiddie porn on the hard drive is the new assassination....

My guess is he stood up for aspies against public policy and his masters ( the system).....

.....and was taken down.

I while back a quit police officer and 3 quit constables made accusations regarding the culture of drinking and bullying within NZ police.

He subsequently was accused of kiddie porn, he then shut up and went away.....

The issue is that this Dr Dubin person has been "knowingly receiving and disturbing child pornography and knowingly possessing child pornography" to quote the OP (though surely the word was "distributing" and not "disturbing"). This has nothing to do with juveniles looking at pornography.

Also, My greatest concern about child pornography is not just about whether the consumer might later harm a child. My greatest concern is that people who take part in the creation and distribution of child pornography have harmed and exploited children and forced them to do things that they are not physically or mentally able to deal with. It must be so traumatising for them. To willfully and knowingly view that kind of material (especially for sexual gratification) is abhorrent.

If it's true that he has actually participated in such a crime, then he deserves to be punished for it. He needs to be sevrely punished and not given any special treatment. However, I think that if he's truly a paedophile, he should be used for research on it. They should also squeeze as much info as possible from him to see if they can prosecute other's who have been involved.

Never heard of him either, but

.....Can you not see how someone who enjoys child porno working with children is a really bad mix?

Taking it one step further,

.....put this pornofreak behind closed doors with a child who likely has communication difficulties and any dysplays of negative behavior will be blamed on the disorder.

Still not getting it?
