Patents first ambition, that you underline well, can be easily turned into an anti-competitive tool, in order to enforce a dominant position biasing the rules of a free market making it de facto less efficient. And I suppose you are not a socialist because of your defensive posture on patents, so you should know that the efficiency of the market is what gives a market economy all its meaning.

I am not a socialist because I do not think productive, rationally selfish people should be forced by Law or threat of violence to serve incompetent parasites who want to live off the labor and product of others and not produce some valuable product or service in return. I believe in production and trade in a free, or nearly free not coerced environment. It is only in the gravest emergencies that people should be -forced- to act for a common social end; for example war or plague or invasion by aliens. I also believe if people wish to be generous with THEIR OWN assets, time and wealth and help others, no one should prevent that. I oppose playing Lord Bountiful with other people's money and assets.

I took the Oath that people who lived in Galt's Gulch took in Ayn Rand's -Atlas Shrugged-.

I swear by my life and my love of it I will not live for the sake of another, nor require any other person to live for my sake.

I hope that is sufficiently clear to you.

Well let's see. I know a fair few people who own Dells. How'd you think that worked out for them? I'll tell ya, it ended in them spending hours on the phone to their s**ty "customer service" when the motherboard/RAM/HD died after the first few months of ownership.

I also know a fair few people with Macs. Every single one of said Macs works absolutely fine.

Nothing is faultless, of course. I had a problem with my iPhone last year. If it'd been a Nokia or something, I'd have had to send it to a repair centre then wait a few weeks to get it back even more broken than it was when I sent it in. But no, I took it into an Apple Store and walked out with a shiny new phone that very day, no fuss.

Apple is a great company. Their stuff works and their service is the best. Period.

Hows Crappy OS X going for you? I agree Dells are pieces of rubbish. But Apple isn't as good as people think and make it out to be. I think custom building stuff is the best way!! I have had iPods before and really there is nothing innovative about them, all they simply did was market a pre existing product and let people know it was out there. When it comes to Apple its all in the marketing and the trend surrounding the brand, the only way they innovated was bringing quality to a whole new level of crappyness.

You know, I see you calling everything Apple makes "crappy", but I don't see you saying anything to back that up with.

OS X is going very well for me, thanks. I don't need to install new drivers and reboot whenever I plug in a new USB key, I don't need to worry about getting a virus from everything, and I'm using the OS which has the new ideas which Windows goes on to copy a year or two later.

As for iPods, they didn't become successful because of the brand. When the iPod launched in 2001, Apple was a very weak brand. Steve Jobs had been brought back to rescue the company from collapse. And he was able to do that because he had a very good product and a very good way to legally get music onto it. Apple was also the first company to get the music industry to play nice with the idea of legal downloading.

To put it into perspective for you, this was the first ever MP3 player:

And this was the first iPod:

Which would you rather own, honestly? The MP3 player existed as merely a toy for geeks before the iPod made it good enough of a concept for the mass market to actually buy.

Well lets talk about OS X, its got full of vulnerabilities, looks s**t, and has s**t all support for stuff. I use Linux so shut Up! I hate Microsoft a lot but believe me I like Windows 7 more than OS X. How is it that Apple products aren't that durable and easily get broken? How is it when something breaks it usually ends up to be something major with Apple crap? How is it the iPhone 4 had major problems? If Apple is so innovative and reliable how come these problems exist? If Apple was so innovative how come they didn't invent the first Tablet or MP3 player or smart phone?

EDIT: I would rather own the first MP3 player than that iPod because at least I know it won't break down real quick.

Full on vulnerabilities... Like what? And because Linux and Windows are 100% secure, yeah?

Looks s**t? That's your opinion. And take a good hard look at Windows XP.

S**t support for stuff? Can you provide me with an example? And as opposed to Vista which was infamous for lack of pretty much any drivers?

When Apple stuff breaks it's usually major? Mind backing that up with evidence?

Apple didn't make the first tablet, smartphone or MP3 player - yes, that's right. But who the f**k owned actually used tablets before the iPad? And who apart from hardcore business people owned smartphones before the iPhone? In fact, look at pre-2007 smartphones, they all used styluses and were horrible to live with. And I already answered about the MP3 players.

And about iPods "breaking down real quick" - I have an iPod Mini which still works perfectly, hard drive and all.

Obvious troll is obvious alert!

You don't even know me, yet you're calling me a spoiled brat because you don't have an argument. Very well done to you, sir

Oh, and if you do go into the business of fixing MP3 players and the like, here's a tip: go for Zune owners

Well I do have an argument but its not worth bickering over any more. You can love your Apple s**t all you like and you are entitled to do so. But it wont change the fact that I love to hate Apple.
