You can't measure the correct distance

The correct distance is constantly changing

Every situation is different

I say any conversations/contact between a teacher and a student not relating to school work may be considered as inappropraite.

Hmm... I think it's unfair for a single older adult to unload their problems on a teenager or young person (think student). At least not alone. (I've had some professors use the entire class as like their personal therapists and tell us a ton of weird stuff, which was funny at the time. But if they told me alone, I'd get uncomfortable regardless of the context).

However, close mentorship relationships are fine. Sometimes kids need extra nurturing and support, and teachers are in a prime place to give it. :)

I have a side question. It says you are 26, so it was a decade ago. I am just curious what prompted you to ask it now? Are you a teacher yourself and are wondering how close you can be to your students? Or are you still friends with that teacher from the past? Or are you just asking it out of curiosity?

Yes, she's still working at the same school, and I still attend the same school.

I should note that at the time of the events described above, she wasn't my teacher.

But it says you are 26. So how can you still be in high school at 26? Or did you make a typo when you put your age?

The OP was 16 at the time.

This thread is ten years old.

Thanks for clarifying.

Its always interesting when the old threads get bumped. Is the OP still around? Hope he sees this thread. Kinda wondering what he thinks about it from his current perspective.

From a teens perspective it would be nice to have someone with whom they feel safe enough to talk to about almost anything
