I hope everything's okay with your colon. To go through health issues alone is really difficult..we aren't "brave" to read your reactions, just concerned,my mother is a RN and I naturally feel concern for anyone going through any health issues.
Hang in there,do some mediation to calm your mind and body. Hope you Thanksgiving will be alright, anyone will be around?

thanks for your concern. it really matters a lot to me. i've never had people care as much as they do here on WP.

yes, i have a husband and child. he has been very worried, but he is glad that the doctor is pretty certain that it is nothing too serious. the way my husband puts it is that i always have a lot of things wrong with my health, but it never turns out to be too serious.

we already had a canadian thanksgiving a few weeks ago, but it is really nice you'd be concerned about me for that day. holidays can be rough when you're worried about stuff! meditatation sounds like the most perfect idea. i think some positive visualizations of mind and body will help get things re-aligned.

It's great you have your husband and child for support! I was having a lot of bladder problems a few months ago and went through it all alone.I missed so many classes, lost my job, was so n so much medication I couldn't go out and see my friends or do much...it was really difficult. You are lucky. Then again we each have the decision how to go through a situation, sometimes it isn't easy though,I was really depressed.
I do a basic Zen meditation technique, which is counting your breath in sets of ten. It's really simple and helps you to focus and calm at the same time.I get far too distracted for more in depth ones. Good luck!

I'm sending you my best thoughts to get through that! The actual barium enema is nothing, but the starvation is a BIG thing for me, and I don't know how I'd handle it.

My only thought would be for you to ask if you can DRINK a protein shake or something; or maybe get a Vitamin B12 shot. I actually get angry and mean if my blood sugar dives low, which it does if I don't eat for a day.

Hang in there, and just know that you're suffering a bit now, to prevent potential BIGTIME suffering later if something were wrong and went unknown.

thank you for the best thoughts!

that is a good idea with the protein shake... i will definitely ask that next time (i'm going to have to fast/starve again for a colonoscopy). i will maybe also ask if i can avoid starving by opting for a regular enema or something instead of a liquid diet. i was sucking back the beef broth, but it has so little protein in it that it was not too helpful.

i feel a lot better knowing that someone who is fit like you has similar difficulty with low blood sugar. i wonder if it is a function of getting in the (good) habit of eating small meals often. it's great for the metabolism, but seems sort of problematic in those rare occasions when fasting is necessary.

it's so true that it is better that it gets found out right away instead of getting worse and being unnoticed until later on.

it makes me sad that you had to go through those issues alone. it is hard to have nobody around when things get difficult. if you have a hard time again - anything at all, please feel free to PM me.

I just found this - I'm sorry you're having such a rough time lately - I, too, will think of you and hope for the best. I'm glad you have your husband and daughter, plus the lovely people here to support and cheer you up a little :flower:

I hope you are feeling better, Hyperlexia, and you receive good news when you get your test results. I definitely know about getting good support in places where I didnt think I would find it. Keep us updated on this.

zen_mistress, thanks so much for your well-wishes. i am still awaiting an appointment with the specialist, which is a good sign that the doctor thinks my situation is not too much of a concern, maybe.

thanks so much Sallamandrina. i really appreciate that a lot!

i talked to my husband yesterday and said i was suppressing my worry because i felt like i was overreacting. he said, "you're not overreating, you're just... reacting. and that's completely understandable." i felt better.

but it brings tears to my eyes that there are so many kind people on WP.

i have an appointment with the surgeon next thursday, december 9. it is just the consultation for the colonoscopy (and potential polypectomy) procedure.

they called to move up the date for an appointment that i didn't even know i had yet. they apparently sent me a letter with some future consultation date, and before i even got the letter in the mail, the office rescheduled it for sooner - they had a cancellation. i didn't even know i had been assigned to a surgeon!

hyperlexian: my name is hyperlexian. i saw that your office called.
dr. office: oh yes, we have a cancellation. can you come in on thursday, december 9 at 3:40 p.m.?
hyperlexian: a cancellation for what?
dr. office: oh, it's just a consultation.
hyperlexian: for what reason?
dr. office: for the colonoscopy procedure. does that date work for you?
hyperlexian: yes.
dr. office: so we'll see you then.
hyperlexian: wait, where do i go?
dr. office: just come... to the office....
hyperlexian (clued in): ohhhh, did you send me a letter with the address and an appointment time? i didn't get anything in the mail yet!

i had my consultation with the general surgeon today. i will have a colonoscopy and possible polypectomy on january 28. i only have to fast for one day and i get to have a general anesthetic (yay! the twilight sedation is not 100% effective, so i was hoping for a general).

he said that the suspected polyp is in my transverse colon and is about 10 mm. it will be sent to the lab and tested for cancer upon removal if it can be recovered. but cancer is a really very small possibility.

i finally have some news. i figured i should post an update here.

i had a colonoscopy done yesterday, and it was all clear. it appears i had some kind of impaction, but it recently resolved itself. so now i will be healthy again, YAY!
