Do you mainly prefer instrumental music, or songs with lyrics?
If it's dance music for me then I nearly always prefer instrumental, as I find vocals just get in the way and the lyrics and generally plain awful anyway.
Most rock music does have some form of lyrics but I find that they have a major influence on whether I like a song or not. If I think the lyrics are bad, it doesn't matter how good the melody is as the track is ruined for me. But there have been quite a lot of songs where I didn't really like the melody but because I liked the lyrics, or could relate to them, I came to like the track.
