Make that one heck of an eclectic dress sense! Interesting bunch. What would you recommend as the best album of theirs to buy?

Well, I enjoyed their album "Suite Gallaise". They were quite a lot younger when they made this record.

Here are a few songs from the record:

Huh. Suite Gallaise is some ridiculous price to buy (£60) and from Amazon.fr they sell it on download - mais "Nous sommes désolés. Nous n'avons pas pu traiter votre commande en raison de restrictions géographiques appliquées au produit que vous avez essayé d'acheter" car je n'suis pas en France. Shame.
Anyway many thanks for mentioning them - I'll get An Naoned and go from there. :)

Tripod did a little Billy Bragg parody. I couldn't find the song anywhere, but here are the lyrics.

He definitely appeals to my left wing sentiments, although I don't like his rewrite of The Internationalle. Its ok but not as good as the original, British version it was meant to replace.

The movie weirded me out.

It's a pretty weird story

It was. The problem with the movie was it misrepresented some things. Like, they didn't have a friend that died of a heroin overdose. That was just something the square movie directors put in to make it more dramatic and to probably criticize the counterculture movement as a generality. The commune didn't fall apart so dramatically either. They ended up reopening the church, and now its an interfaith ministry. In fact, when the movie was being made, the actual people, that the characters were based off of, were still living in the church that they were filming in.

When I was a child, folk music was in the mainstream, and many of the performers actually sold millions of records. Some of the popular musicians were:

Peter, Paul and Mary

Then:

and later:

The Kingston Trio:

Then:

And, later:

The Limeliters

Then:

And, more recently:

And, there was the Mamas and the Papas:

Nowadays, you occasionally see some of them reunited for PBS specials, or maybe some of them are still managing to eke out a living in obscure venues. But, you no longer see piles of their records available in record stores.

Here's some more.

I'm off to Gateshead tomorrow, gonna see Villagers. No idea if they're any good! But here's a local:

A new take on Jack Frank's classic:

And tangentially related to my darling Kirsty:

These guys are great:

Love this song. Rude. :)

Folk, check. Techno, check...

And this controversial song, which - all other things aside as they'd need a lengthy digression! - has some killer lines:

artists/actors as varied as robert guillaume, alan arkin, robert mitchum and bobby darin have all tried their hand at folk music, with each man releasing at least one folk album each.
