Today is my birthday (no offense, but I got enough bday wishes on FB, so don't leave a post that only says happy bday).

For the past several years, I have planned for my bdays and had great hopes for how exciting it would be and how many people would come, etc.

Usually, it falls on the day of a big football game, during thanksgiving break (I'm a student) or during the week. So its usually not a big event.

I have been waiting for this day to end for a while. But around an hour ago, one of my friends offered to host a bday celebration at his house.

I am able to invite people as well.

Now I have new problems. People rarely show up to celebrate with me. Last year I invited around 60 people and only one showed up.

It was embarrassing.

This year between my friend and his roomates, we have a guarenteed group of people, but they are probably expecting more.

I already told my friend it would be small, but how small is so small that it's not socially acceptable (aka lame party)?

Also, it was kind of a last minute thing so he really doesn't have anything in particular planned. I hope he gets a cake, but he will be coming from a meeting right before this gets started. I'm not sure if he'll stop off before.

I am just very nervous because I don't wan this to be a social disaster.

Also, its the big 2-1 but there won't be any alcohol on the premises more than likely. This event will be later in the evening and I want to grab a drink or two after but I also want to get back home around midnightish. Most of the people that are coming will be at that same meeting so I can't really do it before.

Suggestions...PLEASE...QUICKLY because there is little time left.

60? GEE-US! I think if you invite between 5-10 friends then you are less likely to be disappointed. You cannot have 60 true friends.
My 21st was the day my dad died so I was feeling pretty s**t and got ridiculously drunk at a punk club and then cried myself to sleep. I don't think your birthday would be as much as a disaster as mine as my depression lasted for 6-9months.

Anyway, try not to worry so much. Just have a small group of friends to hang out with.

My birthday is two days after Christmas so people don't usually buy me presents. They don't visit me and more than likely I'd spend the whole day playing my Nintendo again. On boxing day I get very depressed. I've got to remember to not be upset this year.

Well if I invited 60 and only got one (who wouldn't have even rememberered if I hadn't called for something else), then I may not have even gotten that if I inivited 5-10.

In any case, please keep the suggestions coming. I'm thinking about just saving myself the embarrassment and canceling. I have to work way to hard to find people to come.

Don't know if this is too late or not, but don't put pressure on yourself. It was last minute, I'm sure your friend is fine if it is just the friend and his roommates. You say they are probably expecting more but that is your own perception. Tell him you appreciate his offer and you're looking forward to celebrating with them.

Relax and enjoy.
