I have an AS ds going on 17 yrs.

I want him to try to become more independent. Should I encourage him to take part in a local AS group? His psych thinks it might be a good idea. I do too, if I can get him to go. What do you think?

It may be a good idea. One thing you can do is to offer to go with him for the first time. That could help with the anxiety and most groups do allow parents to attend for the first few times.

i'd check it out and see how it's run....make certain that there's a moderator & that the topics seem relevant for your son. with my hubby's group, i sat with him for the first meeting just so he could be comfortable...
