Hi, I'm 21 years old.
I've joined this website with the intention of finding some solid information and interacting with knowledgeable members who may be able to provide insight into my situation and offer me advice.

I have never been formally diagnosed with autism or Asperger's, but within the past year I became aware of it's existence/recognition as a valid neurological predisposition and have since then suspected that I may indeed be afflicted with the condition.

It's hard to say for sure and because there is so much shallow and conflicting information on the internet I feel as though I can't truly define what it objectively means to have Asperger's.
What I can say for sure though is that I've always been very different from my peers in ways that fit in with the Asperger's mold, and exhibit some traits that can be considered autistic.

I hope my intentions upon joining this community aren't considered self-absorbed or intrusive, I'd just like some clarity and don't really know where to begin. I realize I've done a poor job explaining my persona and situation, so if there are any particularly helpful threads that are conducive to my questions please link them, or if anyone feels the inclination to ask me any questions I will answer everything truthfully to the best of my abilities.

Your reasons for joining are very valid--a lot of people come here looking for clarification/answers they can't find anywhere else.

I self-diagnosed about a year ago with two online tests (I'll post the links at the bottom). This more or less confirmed something I "knew" my entire life--that I was somehow different from everyone else in a way I couldn't quite describe. Knowing about AS was an "A-ha!" moment for me. The big "it" finally had a name.

You could start by joining the General autism discussion forum, but there is many other forums here that you may also be interested in. And about being self-absorbed, I think once you join the discussions you won't be worried about that anymore. :mrgreen:
