I've always hated Christmas...even as a child. Sure I liked getting presents but that was the only thing I liked about it; everything else I hated. My meltdowns always seemed to worsen around the winter holiday season. My parents always assumed it was because I was anticipating my presents and worried about what I was going to get or not, but I think the drastic change in my routine and relatives and strangers coming in and out of the house unannounced had a lot do do with it as well. I never really believed in Santa. I think I gave him up for good at nine or ten but I had always had my doubts and wasn't really that upset when I learned the truth. My parents would never give me a clear answer. My aspieish dad has always hated Christmas with a passion too and the title of Scrouge goes to him. We only put up a tree becasue my mum insists upon it. I don't think we put one up last year and I strongley suspect we aren't putting one up this year either. Extactaly what does a tree have to do with Jesus' birth anyway? Nothing. As I said, the only thing I really liked about Christmas was getting presents and you can really only find things related to my obsessions online and when there was too much risk in buying stuff online last year, Christmas really lost it's charm. Christmas is just another excuse for my parents to try and make me go to my brother's house and deal with his loud, bratty annoying kids.

Nope, I love it. I like all the decorations and it was always the year to get new toys. Now I don't care for gifts anymore since I have enough stuff but now I will be looking forward to it again because I can get stuff for my son but I have to make sure I don't go overboard with the shopping.

I never experienced what other people experience like the parties or going somewhere or having people over. Only people we had over were relatives and I hated giving up my bedroom but I still loved the holiday because of the presents. We only went somewhere once for Christmas and it was Montana when I was ten because it was what we kids wanted. Then it was our first time we ever did a New Years party. But it was with family only and it was very exciting. I was never forced to interact with anyone.

I love Christmas! The decorations, the music going shopping for Christmas presents, seeing little kids in the mall lined up to see Santa, it all just puts a big smile on my face. I never really attended any Christmas parties, with the exception of family get togethers on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. It's also one of the few days of the year in which I am comfortable communicating with family, next to my birthday and Thanksgiving.

I like it as long as I get presents. :D

Like most family gatherings I will take all the freaking medication to get me in a happy energetic mood and there will probably be alcohol. If I begin to get overloaded by my senses in go the ear plugs or ear phones. Or I might just go quiet and touch the Christmas tree like I'm on LSD. One Christmas when I got high (with the family) that's pretty much all I did.

This will be my first Christmas with my sisters, brothers, step sisters and step brothers, their little ones, and very old friends of the family that I've forgotten about but they still know me.
Last Christmas it was me and my mum and we basically ate, she left to do some things with her friends and I watched the sci-fi channel from 6am to 4pm.
By dinner time my sister and her boyfriend arrived, so we got drunk and watched really trashy TV. She loves that stuff.

So, this year will be a change. Hopefully by then this end of the family will understand that I have my limits. We'll probably be having many family BBQ's before Christmas time. Ooh, it's my birthday too. I almost forgot.

When I was I kid I was too preoccupied with presents, crying when my sister tried to play with mine and eating my body weight in chocolate mint candies to be bothered by the bigger people that made a lot of noise and did all that strange conversation stuff.

i loathe christmas. i hate all gatherings with family members. i hate talking to them, having to be nice even though i think theyre all bigots, getting bad christmas presents( as in ones that show how little they know me- mispelling my name on the card is irritating too), having to hug people and kiss them even though i dislike them, having to dress up which always makes me feel like plastic and makes me feel down and then there is the commercial side of christmas becasue lets face it christmas is no longer about celebrating the birth of santa(was it ever about jesus? i cant remember.) its about the money the retail sector can make as they bombard us with advertising, telling us what we should have and want and that what we have defines our worth 'cause it's all about the money.

I don't have to deal with big family gatherings like the original poster, or most anything else in that post, fortunately. I'm also Jewish. But even if I wasn't, I'm pretty sure my family wouldn't be like that. But what I *do* dread about Xmas is the Xmas music. 6 weeks of nothing BUT Xmas music on some radio stations, and EVERY station goes all Xmas the day of. Since having the radio on every waking moment is a coping mechanism for me, I really hate Xmas for that reason! the one day a year I go without the radio.

I hate Christmas. Everything about it. The spirit of commercialism disguised as good will for mankind, the family gatherings, the constant bustle and crowds and noise, the music, the tv shows, the movies.

My favourite time of year is in early January, after Christmas and New Year's, because I know I have a whole year between me and another rendition of Christmas BS.

I think that most of us are in agreement that christmas sucks, it just reeks of ostentatiousness. People should only give one another gifts if they are really needed and appreciated, but instead family members waste money on useless tat, and everyone pretends that they like it, while co-orperations are laughing at our stupidity all the way to the bank. And why, instead of just saying "merry christmas" to someone, do you have to buy a piece of card, write it on there, and give it to them? Christmas cards are a waste of trees, and so is all the pointless packaging and wrapping paper.

It is nothing but a set of social rituals which are devoid of context and meaning, and ones that are particularly annoying. Christmas decorations are cheap, tacky and ugly, and are an insult to my eyes. Christmas songs are crap and irritating, and are an insult to my ears.

You can't escape it, everywhere you turn you have evil christmas lurking around the corner, it is in your face in some format or another. And the constant social gatherings are so pointless, just
cumbersome chores to be completed when you could be doing something useful like ranting on wrongplanet lol.

There are one or two things I like about christmas like the cold weather and the food. But all in all, christmas gets nothing but a big fat bah humbug from me

It was lovely when I was a child, because it seemed so magical and exciting (like it does for all children). I liked it when I was a teenager too because obviously all the schools had a fortnight off school over Christmas, and it was a nice break, and all of my cousins were younger and so were still close and I went to see them and they came to mine and we watched films, etc.

Now it's boring and depressing. All of my cousins are all teenagers or grown-up now, so I don't see them much now, and I really don't like the way everyone in my house is off work over so many days. Me and my mum are close, but my dad and my brother aren't that close to me or my mum or to eachother, so basically we're all at eachother's throats over Christmas because we're all off at once, and being cooped up inside the house all the time seems to encourage colds and flus - which I HATE getting, and it's so cold and icy outside so I don't like to go out, and I just find it all so depressing.

I love the springtime. Christmas is all over, the nights are drawing out, the weather's getting warmer......lovely!! !! !! !! !! !!

I'm glad my parents and I do nothing on the actual day but open presents and have a special dinner alone together. There's nothing I dread more about the Christmas season than how obnoxious and bustling the stores get. Commercial advertising has polluted and diluted everything about the holiday.
Now, if we're talking about gatherings, we usually do have a get-together at my grandmother's house a week before, where we have yummy dinner and I get even more presents from everyone.
...I like presents. And food. ^_^
Just not the stores...
