I did not need silver fillings until I was in my late teens I can say I certainly had AS before then.

Then no, it doesn't. i got my first filling in second grade or something. symptoms have waxed and waned since then. i still didn't get along with people and i still forgot my homework. the end.
correlation is not causation.

I do not know anything about the mercury filling / autism connection, but as a human being with a body that does not respond well to being bombarded with heavy metals, I would say do your best to avoid getting mercury fillings.

Yes, mercury at body temperature is not likely to leak from the fillings, and you are more likely to ingest mercury eating fish than you are with a filling sitting in your mouth. However, if you ever drink hot liquids, eat hot food or smoke cigarettes, this can set off mercury leaking from your fillings. Every time you chew, mercury leaks from a filling. If you have to get any drilling done on the tooth that has a filling (say the filling needs to be replaced or something) you will have mercury leaking into your body.

My mom just showed me that video a few weeks ago. She is going through naturopathic treatment for mercury poisoning right now after suffering from constant headaches and nerve / sensory issues. She had her heavy metal toxicity tested and has extremely high level mercury poisoning.

She has only had 3 amalgam fillings in her lifetime, though they have been worked on a few times. She drinks tea but does not smoke and lives a very healthy lifestyle.

I myself have one mercury filling and I'm considering getting it replaced and getting my heavy metal levels tested.

Right first of all i have aspergers, which also means i am more than like to have a sensitivity to heavy metals. They accumulate in the body quite easily for autistic people. Secondly, i am supposed to get fillings which will get done for free, BUT they are mercury fillings. Can anyone help find some peer reviewed studies proving that I will have sensitivities to heavy metals and that mercury could make my autistic symptoms worse please?

I want to try and use this basis as a way of getting the more expensive non mercury fillings done for free. Otherwise I really do not want to get anything done at the dentist as I know that over time it could make the symptoms worse.

Would appreciate any input from anybody.

I'm surprised they are still using those Amalgam Mercury fillings. I thought those had been phased out and replaced with something else?
I had some amalgam fillings but they fell out and were replaced. I tried googling to see if there are any peer reviews. I didn't have much success. I found something from 1997, don't know if it would help. It's from ASOMAT.

http://altmedangel.com/mercury.htm

I don't know if that is what you are looking for or if it will help.

I read something on that webpage about allergic reactions to mercury and if you have mercury sensitivity, it is recommended the material be replaced with another material.

Quote:
5. Dentists should advise individuals who may have allergic hypersensitivity to mercury to avoid the use of amalgam. In patients who have developed hypersensitivity to amalgam, existing amalgam restorations should be replaced with another material where this is recommended by a physician.

I had 12 fillings. All of them had mercury. I got them all between the ages of around 12 to 18. I personally didn't notice any effect of them on my symptoms at all.

Actually, my symptoms have mellowed out with age. So maybe I should make the psuedo-science conclusion of the mercury fillings have helped my asperger symptoms.

I had 12 fillings. I am now down to only six. Wisdom teeth got removed and a few we're replaced with crowns. I haven't noticed any difference in my symptoms as the mercury got removed either.

I've seen the mercury fillings come and go and I haven't noticed any difference either way.

I thought it was illegal to put mercury in anything. But I have recently seen a mercury thermometer.
Can you still have an MRI scan with mercury fillings?

I found something else that might be of use on that webpage:

Quote:
22. Canada Health, in the wake of the Richardson report, has stated similar views and has also added that people with kidney or neurological problems might consider alternative fillings as mercury is of particular concern in their cases.

In 1997, Canada Health recommended alternative fillings for people with "neurological problems." If Canada Health recommends it, shouldn't Scotland Health as well?

I would like to apologize about a few replies that you were given. You came here to speak your mind, and that's very brave of you. If everybody in the world could speak their mind the way that you did, the world would be a more accepting place towards everybody, no matter what their beliefs are. I hope to see you in the future.

Peace

I had Asperger's before I ever had my fillings.

Amalgam contains less than 3% Hg, and does so in such a way that it's going to stay put. Furthermore, I question if Asperger's can affect the way the body physically processes toxins and metals.

Also, my dentist told me the Amalgam ones are a bit more durable than the others anyway.

Canada Health is not the be-all and end all of statistics. For example, the stats from them on cigarette packs here in Canada cite 1996 studies - surely the stats have changed within the past years!

Per this thread on a hormone forum I'm a member of:

Removing amalgams for thyroid issues?

Quote:
Mercury is a known endocrine disruptor so yes, it can impact thyroid. I was told it can make it difficult to become optimized and stable. I had my amalgams removed about 8 months ago. I did it hoping it would help, but mostly to help my future unborn (un-conceived) children.

Just my personal opinion on chelating here...

I did a TON of research on chelation after removal (remember to never do it before your amalgams are out). I read research articles, talked with experts in the field, spoke with docs, etc. My opinion based on actual research is that even without chelation, your mercury levels start to decline pretty rapidly except for the first week or so after removal when there is a slight increase. After that, there is a steady decline. This is true for everything I read except Andy Cutler's protocol. He says there is a spike around 6 months post removal. I found NO evidence for this. I tried to get an answer from him about where that speculation came from and I never got it. I had joined the yahoo group to get more info on it and there was really no acceptance for any other ideas. That was a total turn off for me. Plus, some responses from Cutler himself were very judgmental. I saw one woman ask about getting pregnant after the removal and he said that if she didn't wait 18mos-24mos after removal, she was risking her baby's health and should wonder if God will punish her for it. Nice, huh? I'm not making this up. ;-) Anyway, I ended up just doing natural things and eating well. I had no 6 month mark where I suddenly felt worse. I used cilantro with chlorella (which Cutler thinks is dangerous), increased selenium, increased Vit C, and ate good food.

I had no toothaches or problems before removing my amalgams, but have had issues since. I had deep cavities UNDER the amalgams so I don't know that this caused the problems, but it aggravated the pulp so I've been fighting a toothache for a long time now. I had to have crowns put on most of the fillings because they were so large. My insurance paid for 1/2 of everything. For 4 crowns and 2 fillings, it cost me $2100.

You could TRY that angle, especially if you DO have hormone issues and a doc willing to confirm it on paper, but from what Bree stated, she had more problems afterward, and it was terribly expensive.

I have a mouth full of metal fillings and have never had a problem with them one way or another. I'd really only be concerned if you have a tendency to grind your teeth.

Thank you appreciate it. I occasionally grind my teeth and drink plenty of hot drinks.

Urine tests are the best for checking levels. My friend who has Lyme diseases had 4 mercury fillings and had very high levels of mercury in her urine. She is getting the last one removed in a week or so.

Cheers bro.

People have every right to disagree with a person, but as you kind of mentioned, it would not hurt for people wishing to tell me i am wrong to come across a bit nicer.
