Political Systems Explained
• Anarchy: Gimme that damn fish!
• Capitalism: Teach a man to fish; but whatever he catches does not belong to him. Instead, his catch belongs to the person paying him to fish; and, if he is lucky, he might get paid enough to buy a fish for himself.
• Communism: Give a man a fish, and then tell him that it is not his to eat until he has met his quota for grain production by the end of this quarter.
• Marxism: Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity. (Yes, Karl Marx actually said this.)
• Matriarchy: Teach a man to fish, and you can get rid of him for an entire weekend.
• Oligarchy: Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. Sell him a fishing license, and you can regulate the location, time, and size of his catch, and whether he gets to eat it or sell it.
• Patriarchy: Teach a man to fish, and he will teach others how to fish as if he had invented fishing.
• Socialism: Teach a man to fish, and then appropriate his catch to feed the bourgeoisie.
• Unionism: Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, and you will be out of a job.
