I'm currently on day three. I'm trying it out. I don't believe it will 'cure' autism, but help with other health problems. Has anyone else tried it.

I don't know of it, but I might like to look into it. I'm supposed to be on a casein-free diet anyway, because it makes me ill, but it's so hard to avoid.

I have been on the Gluten Free diet for the past ten years, and love it. I am sensitive to over the counter allergy med's, so I rarely eat any dairy (milk products, and butter aggravate my allergy's). I don't know if a GF/CF it will cure autism, but it has cleared up my stomachaches, headaches, brain fog, some of my sensory issues, some of my dizzy spells, and physically I just feel better. It's not for everyone but the diet works for me :)

I was on it for a month and it was the worst month of my life! All the foods I liked were eliminated and I could eat all the foods that I didn't like. I couldn't eat wheat, but I could eat meat from some places. (I ate a lot of meat at this time). I found that for me, it made it worse. One of my main aspie traits is being a picky eater. I don't think I have Celiac disease or anything like that. In fact, I don't think I can remember one time in my life when I have had a stomachache.

If you think finding gluten free food is hard now, you should have tried it a decade OK (I tried in 2001, nearly 10 years ago) There wasn't one thing on the market that was gluten free.

Didn't work for me. Rare, I know. But true.

My ds is 6 and is mild ASD. He was constantly complaing of stomach aches and had alternating bouts of diareah/constipation. His behaviour was appalling too, constant meltdowns, hitting out etc.

I put him on the gf diet, but didn't go c/f. Within a week his stomach was feeling heaps better. Within about 3-4 weeks his behaviour improved dramatically. I wasn't expecting that.

I know when he does eat the wrong thing because he starts complaining of a stomach ache and gets diareah. He starts having more frequent meltdowns too.

It has been amazing for him and us, and had I known earlier I would have started years ago!

Casein is a protein in milk. Even lactose-free and "non-dairy" products have casein in them. I found this out the hard way. XD I can only drink soy milk without suffering for it.

I love my food too much to go on such a diet. Good luck trying the diet, though. I hope it works for you. :)

It's got nothing to do with autism, but if you're sensitive to wheat or milk, it can help.

Those aren't the only things you can be sensitive to, though. It's very simplistic to think you can cure all allergies and digestive intolerances by cutting out wheat and milk. There are many other things that could be at fault.

But most autistics have no digestive issues and benefit most from simply a balanced diet.

(I was on GF/CF for years as a child; it did not help because I am not sensitive to wheat or milk, and I am shorter than I should be because I didn't get a lot of calcium while I was having my growth spurt. GF/CF does have a risk of bone density loss associated with it.)

I could never do it myself, but I DO notice that when I eat a lot of dairy bad stuff happens to my body. I get zits, headaches, feel more moody and just overall yucky inside.

I don't think these kinds of diets can really substantially lesson AS symptoms. But eating healthily will help keep your head clear.

So far, I can tell a difference when I eat something that's off the diet. Casein isn't as bad and gluten, but anytime I eat gluten, my stomach hurts extremely bad. I was in the hospital a few years ago for a peptic ulcer(tested neg. for h. pylori), and it almost feels like it's back when I eat bread or drink regular milk, ect. I had a bowl of g/f cereal, and soy milk earlier, and nothing. No pain, or anything.

I'm currently gluten free, and eat casein sparingly. It works for me. I don't think this has anything to do with autism.

There is a thing called "Leaky Gut Syndrome" that is supposedly linked to autism.

It seems that an awful lot of asd people have stomach problems.

The behavioural change in my son may be because he is no longer in constant pain. I don't know, but it works for us.

I'm diabetic, controlled only by diet and exercise. I've eliminated huge swaths of typical foods from my diet.

I suppose if eliminate gluten and casein as well then I can still have water. :eew:

I can't have much dairy and wheat makes me itchy. But I still do. I'm not even meant to have much sugar, caffeine or alcohol but still do. I draw the line at milkshakes and soft drinks and perhaps hard liquor.
I went on GF/CF for a little while. One of my biggest problems was not starving. Now there is a lot more GF/CF products out there but they are still expensive. I'm too lazy to make the food myself.
