Does this strike anyone else as odd ... or is it just me?

I sent a message to a girl on a dating site simply telling her I found her attractive and interesting and that id love to chat with her...

she replies with her first name and a phone number to call her right off the bat. 8O

Since this has never happened before I get cautious. So I start to research just in case.

-Her area code is not on my local area but of one adjacent to it (so its probably a cellphone).

-The dating site has an option that lets you see who has viewed your profile in the past 48 hours.. and she is not listed there. So she just receives a message out the blue and replies with her phone # without seeing the person's profile?

-the site profiles her age as being 2 years younger than what she posted on her description..and in the description she states the age is not updating correctly on the website 'for some reason' .... so I went into the settings and changed my birth date a couple times and checked ... it does update correctly.

-Her profile only has one photo of herself.
-Her username phonetically spells out 'ugly asian' (and shes very pretty).

-image search engines do not match to her any model/actress so its probably not a false pic.

... and she states she loves the tv show dexter .. *drumroll* lol... eek.

Thoughts?

You tell her to call you. If she's comes up with a excuse just leave her behind you. If she calls and turn out to be a normal person, grats. If it's a scam and she wants you to do things for her straight away just hang up.

so give her your number and let's see what happens.

I'd ignore it.

Hmm interesting idea. I'll do it but in a different way. I'll call her from a public phone somewhere quiet that way no caller ID for her to get my number from. We'll see :)

thnx all.

Sounds to me like she might be cruising for paid phone calls. I'd do as mentioned above: Have her call you or completely ignore it.

She (or possibly he) could be browsing anonymously, most sites have this feature.

I would call her If you're really interested, but if she asks you for anything material hang up and forget the whole thing.

Just my US$0.02 ...

Nah, the number is not a pay-to-call number I know that from the area code... but I do consider the probability of someone getting my home phone number for shady stuff hence why I'll first call her from a public phone. That will also help verify gender (lol).

The site has no anonymous browsing feature.

What do you lose by calling her? At the very worst you have a good story to share.

I only mentioned this because, in our area, it is common to have someone call a local (regular) area code first, then hook them into paying for the call by asking if they "want to join the party". Some people stalk dating sites to have them join.

If you call her, do it on a public phone. I would never give my number to someone unless I had been talking to them a bit. There are some crazy people on dating sites.

Nothing wrong with Dexter though.

I would make an excuse to not call her. Say that my phone is low on minutes or something & suggest chatting on the site, email or IM instead. If she gets mad or doesn't reply; chances are it's some kinda scammer. It's not a good idea to give out your number online to a stranger like that
