So I finally get decent amount of money. And my parents decide they dictate to me that I Have to buy a new bed.! And I kindly say "It's my money and I can buy what I wish. That was the biggest mistake of my life! Now they are holding a grudge against me for it. I am 28 years Old living on my own for a decade and they treat me like I am 1O. What do I do what's with people and that "mentality".  they tend to push me into doing something against my will and I don't oblige I get condemned!

You really can't fix that because the problem is them and not you. I think what you can do is to try not to react to the problem--that is don't let it get to you.

I think it is funny because my mom used to be overbearing, she is not now.

On a different thought, I actually still sleep in a twin size bed. Yeah, its a different mattress obviously than when I was a kid, but I'm 38 and its the same bed. Some people find that strange.

I agree with the title. :( That must wear you down pretty good. Here you are liveing by yourself, and they still plink at your esteem over a stupid bed!

My parents were so demanding and put so much pressure on me that I just moved away. Not saying you should move away, I don't even know your proximity, but it was the last straw in my case. If you're happy with your bed, don't change it. If I changed my bed right now, it would take me months to get comfortable with a new one.

I know what you mean. My parents have questioned every decision I have ever made and they seem to enjoy it.

If it's not broke don't fix it.

I had to deal with the same situation, my father was trying to "tell" me how I should spend and save my money since I've gotten a job. I have never once listened to his bad advice and he would get very very angry about that and basically anytime I spent money he didn't deem appropriate I would get some long lecture on how I need to save, I waste all my money blah blah blah. This went on until one day I sat him down and basically explained to him, while I understand he is my father and I do appreciate him trying to look out for me I am not taking financial advice from someone with a credit score over 200 points lower then mine, that has less then 5% of the money I have saved in the bank that I do, and basically lives paycheck to paycheck because of frivolous spending habits. I Don't need new clothes if the ones I have fit and aren't ripped to shreds, I don't need a new pair of sneakers every year, I don't need a $1500 entertainment center when I'm home all off 5 hours out of the day and I have no real interest in 90% of whats on TV anyway. I went on to explain that he has indeed taught me a lot about money and the importance of saving but I have learned from his mistakes not the advice he is wrongly trying to give me. The fact that he see a new $500-$600 engine part in my garage or on my car when I see him doesn't mean I spent the first $500 on it. This as you probably can tell didn't go over very well at the time, but he got over it in a week and now stops giving me input on how I should or shouldn't spend my money.
