Hey, I really like the smell of NEW SHOES in dept stores but I have a feeling that it is not good to be sniffing it.

I also like the smell of Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and that ointment called Vicks.

Lavender makes me kinda dizzy and sleepy.

I have to echo several people here. I grew up on a typical southern "farm", which means we raised animals for fun and not profit.
I actually like the smell of horse/cow manure
Leather tack
Fresh-tilled earth
Paper, especially old paper-back novels
Wood, especially cedar
Water, whether from the ocean, bayous, swamps, or lakes
Plants, especially aromatics like roses, lavender, etc
Any kind of cooking food, especially meats
Wood smoke
Cigarette/cigar smoke
New shoes, car
Incense

RightGalaxy, I know exactly what you mean. Pre-storm is amazing. Also, the smell of wet, hot pavement in the summer.

Normally, I like natural smells. Things I can't stand to smell include Axe spray-on deodorant, strong alcohols, and that creepy "too clean" hospital scent.

that reminds me, there is nothing like the smell of ocean spray- that cool, salty seeweedy blast of wet air from the pacific leaves me wanting more, and i end up so enthralled by it that i find myself getting splashed by the waves before i'm broken from the spell.

i went to a new-age candle shop a while back, and they had some rich chocolate candles burning, and the aroma was so overpowering i felt like screaming. my stomach was twisted in frustrated hunger-knots, and i couldn't get away from that place fast enough- not because it was offensive but because it was too intensely good for me to handle. if only they were edible, i'd have eaten the hell out of those things.

some kinds of Asian food my parents make (I don't even know what many of them are called...)
newly opened Play-Doh :D
roses
roast chicken or turkey
sweet potatoes

My favorite perfumes are Cashmere Mist (Donna Karan) and Laguna Beach (Hollister).

...That's about it, I have a bad sense of smell... XD

ah, the memories from kindegarten....play doh was such a friendly affectionate smell. it was a welcome smell that made me feel like all was right in my world, at least between me and the playdoh. and it is better to have a bad sense of smell, than to have a bad smell.

can you tell me how aviation fuel [presumably high-octane piston engine instead of kerosene/jp4] differs odorifically from ethel?

fresh ocean/beach air
cinnamon-flavored foods (but not straight cinnamon)
real strawberries
lemon
my hair, apparently, because I smell it all the time.

There are others I can't think of, but it's a short list. Most scents are so strong or offensive they either give me headaches or make me nauseous. The smell of brewing coffee has sent me running to a bathroom more than once.

i will have to ask an aviation expert acquaintance of mine, about this subject. if i find out about what the je'n sais quoi is about the fuel, i'll get back with you with the info.
