I said experts lump them together because they're basically the same thing.

The rest of my post is not about experts, but about things I have read that have been written by people diagnosed with autistic disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, and PDD-NOS. Anbuend's one of those people. Another is her friend whose brain works very much like anbuends, but has been diagnosed both PDD-NOS and Asperger's Syndrome. Others include other posters on this forum, bloggers, book authors (or writers who contributed to books). This stuff isn't superficial, it's actually pretty profound. Maybe it's different for you, I don't know, but the more I read, the more people I talk to? The more I'm convinced that no real divisions are described in the DSM-IV. There are real distinctions but the DSM-IV (and the DSM-V) is not equipped to describe them in any meaningful way.

Perhaps you could describe these differences? I don't see them.

I have revised my post to remove the reference to being messy, which was the most ambiguous example I used.

I did get the point of the cartoon, I just think if I did it I would have used totally unambiguous examples.

Yes, this was what I was going for, to make the joke work. It's actually fairly hard to come up with examples that aren't open to interpretation. Most of the ones I used came from actual threads here on WP, and they all had debate around them. Again, I realize the flaws in my concept and I'm glad to have this discussion around it.

It's funny because it shows that desperation. People take one trait that may be AS and think they they have it.

Don't look too much into it. The beauty about jokes is that they don't always have to be 100% correct.

One other thing I wanted to add. I came home today and had 50 new comments on my blog. The first thing I thought was, oh no, it's those angry people from Wrong Planet, taking me to task for this post. Turns out, Autism Speaks linked to me, and it was all parents saying how much they loved the original "Dude" cartoon. Funny.

I always expect the worst. I guess that's because I'm an Aspie?

Oh no, please don't think I was angry with you. I never was and had no desire at all to make you feel bad. I don't think anyone else was either. Honestly. We're autistic, we get into precision, it doesn't mean anything personal.

I'm not taking sides on this issue. People on every side seem to serious at times. My advise to both sides has been to lighten up and find a sense of humor and be nice. Autism Speaks needs a sense of humor as well. Though I wouldn't suggest pull my finger politics. The cartoon talked about serious issues with humor. I think it was for the best.
