Howdy. Think this one over; if the Bush administration decides we need extra troops to support the Israelis, what is the probability of the draft being reinstated sooner or later? Will AS people be exempt or is it not considered exempt-worthy? What are YOUR plans?

I'm Canadian, so if there was another draft, all I'd do is sit around and watch as U.S. immigrants rush up here.

Lots of thoughts there. More bodies we don't neeed (alive or dead)
There's more than enough to "make a desert and call it peace" in any locality.
And, short of nuking the world, not enough to police the planet.

Since I'm not convinced the founding of Israel was politically legitimate anyway (too late to undo that, though!) I'm not so keen on unilteral support for that nation.

Could blue helmets hold the two sides apart? Not at the moment, though they have in the past in the Sinai, and on the Golan heights.

And Aspies in the military? I think some could excel in a formal structure with clearly defined aims, where pursuing focussed objectives is a major theme. Some might find the ready-made "family" what they have been looking for, others find the enforced family and socialisation an utter nightmare. With more and more electronics, the services need the geeks, too...

Why exactly would the united states want to intervene in the Israeli-Arab conflict with direct military action? How many billions a year do you give them in grants? Theres a reason they have an IDF you know. They knew from day one they couldn't rely on the united nations, France, The soviet union and eventually (after 1967) the Americains to bail them out of crisis or provide defence.

Some serious logic isn't quite falling into place here.

However with the idea that restrictions on recruitment to the military will be lifted and people with AS can sign up. Well as ive said before if you are dumb enough to sign up for that in the first place you should be allowed. I never really got the whole anti-homosexuality thing with the US military i mean when your killing people is seeing two guys making out some kind of turn off for them or something?

Because Asperger is a socal disorder, I'm sure the military might make it a case by case basis if things do get bad in the middle east, and we might be looking at a possible WW3 soon. It will be quite interesting watching all the cowards make their way to Canada or possibly France since that country is known for their saying: DON'T SHOOT, DON'T SHOOT! WE SURRENDER WE SURRENDER DON'T HURT US!

i was just talking about this with my husband the other night.. I would say people like my son would never make it in the military because of his AS.. talk about sensory over load.. he would never be able to change from place to place. its just not him.. and i think yes it would be case by case. but i am sure that the milatary could use AS folks for home base and behind the scenes. give that AS mind the exposure and they take off with knowledge..

I think that the US will be sending troops IF we see that the Israel army (SP) needs it.. they are fierce fighters.. why would they not be. they are born and bred to fight for their cause. they have been persucted for several hundred years.. think of how many Jews were gassed in the gas chambers years ago.... my grandfather fought in the Big WWII. I have a strong allegience to this country. while I may not agree with the President leads us into I do beleive in the freedom of this country is based on many men and woman giving their lives.. and this is just what the people of Israel will do. I work for a Jewish based company who have deep ties to the home country. while I may be a christian I believe in their cause.. I do think we will be sending our boys over there at some time. I do think that many many muslim countries hate the US and Israel. its a sad sad world we live in....

The problem is the big reason we are well hated by so many Islam fundementalists is because we look out for Israel, a country that has been attacked so many times. As long as we are friends to Israel, in the eyes of Al-Quada, we are nothing more but a cockroach that needs to be squashed.

they would hate us even if we did not like Israel.. its just yet something for the fundementalist to despise us over. lets face it they hate for because we are a free thinking country. we have freedom of religion... etc... hate is bred into these people at a very young age in those fundelmentalist countries.. I worked with a guy who would have been a mgr of a local grocery store BUT his hatred of Jews and the refusal to wait on them as customers cost him many promotions. he was from Jordan.

Israel has more than enough soldiers to handle any and all of the mideast- they won't draft- that would be the last straw for the people.

However I do find it interesting that we have all of those hapless Americans trapped in Lebanon... When you consider we have the largest fleet on Earth and we can be anywhere in force within 24 hours, how come Americans are trapped?

Better yet, what do you think would happen if all of a sudden the US Navy shows up there to pick up the Americans?

I think Bush already spelled out our involvement in this mess.
