For me, a car. There isn't very good public transportation where I live.

I would rather walk. If I could, I would walk up the traintracks to get to London :D. But out of these options I'll go with Trains, because they're awesome and have faces. At least Thomas and his pals do.

Jeep

An actual Jeep, not those other vehicles sporting a "Jeep" logo.

As someone who cannot drive and has to rely on an often unreliable cab service, I'm going to say that a car would be the ideal mode of transportation, especially whenever you're living in a non-pedestrian-friendly city like I do. I'm beginning to rethink my decision to not learn how to drive.

I like to run everywhere like Forrest Gump. Love trains but don't have them as an option around here. Some of my best clear thinking is done by getting into my car and just driving around back roads until I don't know where I am.

Car...specifically a 92-95 Honda Civic Hatchback for 90% of the population that doesn't have children, the other 10% are better suited for faster 4 bangers and 6 cylinders and light trucks with similar engines

V8s aren't for transportation IMO, if you have a GOOD V8 you should have at least 400hp. If you have at least 400hp you either should be a skilled driver or have a big vehicle, you shouldn't have a big vehicle unless you need to carry big things.

For people with children it gets more complicated of course depending on genetics, hobbies, etc. Short people could probably live with a 92-95 Civic Sedan, the average to slightly above average family would be better served by a 97-98 Nissan Maxima (95-96 aren't as crashworthy and 99 have "revised" electronics).

Anything against a late model Honda Accord?

Hmm ... how is this thread going to turn "adult"? ;)

I've got to agree with you - I drive a '63 Plymouth, Valiant. The push button transmission still gives me a kick, even after 19 years of ownership.

Heavy. Also Nissans are always easier to work on than comparable Hondas in my experience. All modern Honda engines except for the K series are also very underpowered which is sad considering the history of VTEC in the 90s. It's like they aren't even trying anymore, same with Toyota.

In the mean time Nissan's blowing everyone's doors off between the $70,000 GT-R, the 370Z, the world's fastest CVT cars, etc. Well...them and Ford. Ford is producing the "Scorpion" 6.7L V8 turbo-diesel, Duratec/Ecoboost I4s and V6s. Not to mention the amazing 5.0L V8 in the stang, previously known as the "Coyote".
