Okay, but as a vehicle that only has the purpose of getting my wife, toddler son and myself from point A to point B reliably?

Do your wife and a single kid need six airbags, 2.4L+ engines, traction, stability, and antilock? Sounds like overkill to me....oh and then theres the 3200lb curb weight for the 02-07s and I know for sure the 08s weigh a ton more.

I have reliably driven 4 kids between 5-11 around while getting 26-29mpg and blowing by Mustangs in a 2600lb car with a single airbag, while hauling 200lbs of scrap metal in the trunk, an antiquated 3L V6, etc. No electronic assists, only 2 speakers.

It probably is overkill, but as I have no mechanical gene I buy new with a warranty :) I absolutely despise the traction control system that shuts the engine down every single time I take a turn under acceleration.

Then stick with something lower end. Either that or find an unemployed grease monkey to be your warranty on an older car.

The thing with expensive cars is they devalue more than a low end car. Until you get into collectible cars of course. If you buy your wife a limited edition Maserati it might pay itself off, if you buy a BMW @ $40-70K you'll be selling it to someone in his 20s in 15 years for $10,000-15,000 and if you buy a Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit or something similar. They'll likely retain at least 1/3rd of their value worst case scenario.

My noisy, obnoxious late-90s Ford diesel truck :D
Which is my escape mechanism when I'm stressed, I'll go for a drive in the country.

Hmm ... how is this thread going to turn "adult"? ;)

Magic carpet with dildo attached then.

Well.... I guess that would help you stay on while cornering....

I can't express how much I agree with this! There really is very little that is better then driving a big 'ol diesel around... the sounds, the smell of diesel, the way the whole truck shakes when you crank the engine.... it's like driving around in your own personal tank.

It would be a lot faster, safer & easier to avoid crowds of people
