I'm 25 year old mother with a 4 year old diagnosed with Autism. In the last year or so since my son's diagnosis, I have come realize certain things about myself that I feel fit on the spectrum, specifically Asperger's. I have almost obsessively done research in the last couple months trying to find all I can about women on the spectrum and how it manifests itself in them. I have not spoken much of my suspicions to anyone...even my husband. I am afraid they will find me ridiculous or that I am just trying to piggy-back on my son's diagnosis. I am grappling with the decision of whether I am going to speak outright about my thoughts and feelings, and if I will seek official diagnosis.

What if you approach you husband in terms of 'beginning to think . . . ' and list one aspie trait that generally causes problems and then one aspie trait that's generally positive?

Hi there and Welcome to Wrong Planet :)

I think AadvarkGoodSwimmer has a good point. Instead of coming out and saying it. Just say "I wonder if I have AS because ....." and list a trait or word something similar so it doesn't look like you are trying to piggyback on your son's diagnosis. You would seem like your just wondering about yourself because of similar traits in your son. A way to test how people would react. Then if its positive then you could proceed to saying that maybe you should get a diagnosis.

Just a idea to try :)

That's a good idea...thank you. :) I just might try that. I'll just have to think about what I'll say and rehearse it first!

Thanks again. :)

And, yes, please allow me to extend my welcome as well.

And whether you are aspie or whether you are a bridge person (some aspie traits but not others), you are very welcome to participate however and whenever you wish. And actually, there's a a lot to be said for being a "bridge person" because you can then just talk with us and perhaps help us add to our skill set while still respecting where we are coming from.

Welcome to WrongPlanet! :D
