In my perception, there's a general trend when it comes to pop-culture films, books, figures, etc that are (thought to be) associated with a strong female following-

for instance, a lot of women don't care for gratuitous horror/cheesy action films,
but you won't find hordes of them all over the internet spamming every site related to them with "This is GAY! Anyone who likes this is a FAG!"

I really don't care for any of Justin Bieber's work,
but I don't feel compelled to post and comment about brutally killing him, or viciously insulting those who do like him.

What kind of reasoning motivates someone from strong dislike of a certain something for various reasons to furiously raging against it at every opportunity?

It's not just men.
I hate it with a passion too.

Some things are so terribly written they need to be destroyed.

Because it is the rules of life. Every male is forced to hate Twilight or else. This isn't actually my opinion as well, I don't actually hate it (8O "Ahhhh!! !! He doesn't hate it!! !! Kill him!! !!"), but it's pretty much the truth.

its not about the genre, thats why you wont find women hating on horror or cheesy action.

Twilight is not a genre in itself. Men do not dislike twilight because it involves vampires or a love story, there are plenty of love stories that men do like.

I honestly dislike the movies because i think its over dramatized to the point it turns comedic. I just cant get in to the movie without being ripped out of it the next minute because its so unrealistic. No i dont mean vampires are unrealistic, vampires can be portrayed in a realistic way. There are plenty of vampire movies that are GOOD and believable. The way twilight handles dialogue and story is just not believable to me.

On the hating towards for example edward or twilight, women do it just as much. Take any famous woman for who men instantly drool and see how many women hate on her.

It depends though, there are men who are respected by men and still have tons of women followers. On the other hand you have justin bieber who is hated on by men (boys) because he has so many followers. I think the hating occurs because the haters think that he doesnt deserve it.

Same goes for famous women there are ones respected by women and hated by women both with men followers.

Its all about competition, jealousy and insecurity i gues.

is already obviously very homoerotic. A bunch of oiled up muscle-y guys alone together in the woods doing "man stuff". Yeah....gaaaaaaaaaaay.

I hate Twilight with a passion and I am sympathetic to the spammers. I haven't the time nor the vitriol to post those sort of comments myself, but I applaud those who do.

It certainly isn't about genre (for example, I love Anne Rice and True Blood as well as more classic, frightening interpretations of vampires) nor about jealousy or insecurity (I'm gay, and have little concern for their attentions). I actually dislike cheesy action movies as much as I dislike Twilight and have equal praise for anyone who wants to rip into Stephen Seagal or Sly Stallone on a forum.

In both cases, it is about the quality of the product versus the level of attention it receives. Twilight is truly terrible and should not be the literary focus of so many. All of the hours wasted by those reading and re-reading the book, all of the passion and all of the money directed towards this franchise . . . I am filled with fury just thinking about the waste, and the minds misdirected. I cringe when I imagine how many stupid girls have accepted that this trash is a reasonable approximation of literature in any form.

Men usually have very low self esteem and lack confidence. About straight guys more specifically, they are constantly pushed by their peers to prove that a) they are "really men" b) they are not "woman" c) they are not gay.

Why do a lot of men hate Twilight so passionately? Simple really, it has basically bludgeoned the whole vampire mythology and has given the impression that these once evil, smelly, sinister and dark creatures are sparkly hair-care product obsessed prettyboys. And don't even get me started on Robert Pattinson sparkling in the sunlight, since when do vampires sparkle!?!?!

If i want real vampire movies, i will watch...

The Bela Lugosi Dracula
The Hammer Horror Dracula with Christopher Lee
Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman as the Count
Interview with the Vampire
The Lost Boys
Blade
Blade 2
30 Days of Night
Daybreakers - The subsider vamps P*SSES all over Edward Cullen
Let Me In

Now you know why i hate Twilight.

ugh Twilight. ><

The thing with this film is that there is no art to it. From the get go you can see it was made not with the mindset of making a film or a movie or any type of contribution to cinema.. it was built around marketing parameters to make money.

Top of the list of why its so irritating is that it was targeted to make money out of sex-related themes from a very young audience. That movie IS targeted to the 10-16 yr old audience.

The running theme of the angsty high school girl constantly trying to get laid with the guy that is not only dead but also far older than she is but looks like a teenager is one thing. The theme of the guy doing his best NOT to get laid out of concern for her feelings/etc is another. It cashes in on the supernatural-hype on the teen audience that Harry Potter films had started...with the sexual situations twisted into it. I was stunned when my (at that time) 12 yr old cousin was reading some parts of the novel out loud ... it sounded as if it had come right out of playboy magazine.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not prudish and I believe kids as young as 6 should have a knowledge of human sexuality but when you see a film spun around sexual tension and covered up in teen-angst syrup and targeted at 10-16 year olds just to make money out of the hype... that I find irresponsible and very insulting.

Seeing how the twilight hype among teens literally died off when the audience found out that the coming movie (likely the last one) is when the main characters finally get laid tells you a lot.

I have never seen or read Twilight. Tbh I'm not even annoyed with all the hardcore fans & hype, as it is hard to annoy me. I think it is just fun to poke fun at it. And easy. :D
Please don't beat me ? :D Image

I heard that a lot of the hate started to go around when it was becoming really popular among females, and then a lot of them started going "Why are you not more like Edward", guys started to be held to unrealistic levels. Not to mention they were being told they were worse then a 100 hundred year old sparkly guy who stalks a teenage girl.

Whats worse is seeing all the middle aged women fall over these young actors, everyone would seriously be up in arms if the genders were reversed.

I don't think I need to get started on vampires in the sunlight, hey vampires don't need to catch fire, that was invented in the movie Nosferatu, but usually had some hinderence not looking like diamonds.

So...you're upset that people like different things from you, basically.

Oh really? I haven't heard of any such riots at the hundreds of thousands of
strip clubs
boob bars
porn conventions
Hooters

Give me a break.
The same scene in that demotiv happens every day a thousand times over,
usually in a far more sexualized context than Twilight's PG themes,
only it's old men ogling young women.

The genders ARE reversed this time- and that seems to be a cause for a lot of the hostility.
