There is some concern about the documentary...

You can see a promo trailer for it here...

http://video.pbs.org/video/1865831018

My two "favorite" quotes -

‎"When I see the effect it has had on his family and his older sister, who is ten..."

Which is all well and good, that he worries about the family. What about the kid?

And -

"It delays the most -- delays or impairs for life -- the most human thing we have, which is our ability to look into each others eyes and feel that other person's existence and what might be going on in their mind, and to empathize with them. That is denied -- largely denied -- to children with autism."

Maybe there's a bit more to empathy than looking people in the eye.

That's silly. The most Human thing we have is our consciousness and sapience. We all certainly have this. These people overrate social interaction

If you don't mind, I'd like to take a moment to flog a friend's site.

http://www.rethinkingautism.com/Rethink ... /Home.html

I think she gets it particularly right with this video. (I particularly like the "Who is the party for? You? Or him?" comment.)

You can also find them on FaceBook...

And you can feel free to "invite" friends to help get the message out.

Ummm, no. Not every person has a conscience. Most of us humans do, some humans don't (psychopathy-- the worst cases within the diagnosis of anti social personality disorder-- however, some would argue that they do not have ASPD at all, but rather a related yet different, and worse, condition... Okay, I'm stopping myself from going into a huge special interest lecture, sorry :-)). They're the ones who are lacking one of the most fundamentally human traits, not those of us on the spectrum.

Conscience =/= conscious... Just to clarify

Does it even make sense to speak of "most human" except as a way to denigrate some people as somehow less than human?

MacNeil-blather report topic

Just watched the trailer. I think his daughter has been woo-wooing with Jenny McCarthy.

Sorry, I do not buy the theory of vaccine induced Autism. We all try to make sense of personal tragedy, but lordy, you would think that a well educated news personality would not resort to Glenn Beckism.

You can do better, Bob. Smarten up.

Would you care to offer some part of their release to support that claim?
