People say we should be open-minded. You know what bugs me, though? When younger kids are allowed to see a straight couple kiss in modern media (think iCarly, Victorious, Hannah Montana, ect.) but if those two people happen to be the same gender, it's wrong. How does gender affect it? People treat it as if it's a taboo topic, like drugs and sex. Yes, sexuality is involved in it, but sexuality is involved in being straight, but people censor it and make it only romantic for shows directed to little kids. They could censor same-gender couples for that, too! Why would parents be angry if we are supposed to be "open-minded"?

It would be nice, but it's hard to throw logic into an argument that typically has none. Most people that rant and rave about anything don't have any logic attached to what they are saying, and this is especially true for hot button topics like homosexuality. So sure, you are right, but it doesn't matter. Those people say you should be open minded because they aren't.

How would they respond when hearing logic?

I get very uncomfortable watching kissing on shows like that-I know what you mean-same sex affections are always treated like a bad thing-you see when two guys are happy and hug they get real masculine dude like-but a boy girl hug is always treated as a good and ok to do

Why?

Because most of society still isn't okay with anything not straight. They're afraid the normalization of 'the gay lifestyle' will turn their children gay.

Because, you know, it's totally a choice.

But watching straight people make out doesn't make gay people straight.... ahh the irrationalities of society

I've found most people are irrational. It's one of those universal truths, I suppose.

This.

People think that if children are exposed to homosexuality on television, then their kids will get the message that it's normal and trendy, and their kids will inevitably decide to experiment with it.

As much as Americans tolerate the fact that there are homosexuals in society, they would dread having their own children turn out to be gay.

Exactly. I'm a member of a mom forum and I've heard it all. It's scary how many have said they would wonder what they did wrong if their child came out.

If they didn't censor homosexuality to such an extent the world would become much more open minded, being exposed to it (at an earlier age), on TV or through talking about it with others, would mean that seeing it in real life wouldn't cause people so much confusion, disgust or hilarity.

I think it's also why some people don't even consider that homosexuality has anything to do with love or emotions, but purely a debauched lifestyle which only involves promiscuous sex and of course it's a 'choice' to do that!

People say they are open minded, but when it comes to the 'crunch' they aren't; I don't know how many times I've heard people saying "I'm not homophobic, but.....", or "I'm not racist, but....".

In many ways, us humans are still as stupid as we were when we burned people who floated in water (must be a witch!).

Unfortunately, society today isn't as tolerant as it likes to believe. Sure, it's tolerant to race, religion, ethnicity and gender, but anything else, it tries to deny.
