sorry i wasnt sure where to put this topic x

for years i have put off going to the dentist, and now i need to go again ( non urgent ), i dont like being touched especially my face, i get into such a state that im nearly passing out and thats just for a check up ! ! any ideas how to overcome this, the anxiety leading up to the appointment dosent help matters x

i also have a habit of slapping peoples hands away ( including doctors, nurses ect ) :wall: which can be very embarrassing, its just a gut reaction x

When I was younger I actually did pass out at the dentist!! lol
I have a rather strange phobia of the dentist and my dentist actually has me completely "put under" so he can work on my teeth. Maybe you could find one who would do that for you?

Actually the dentist I go to is a pediatric/special needs specialist. I hate the sensations of having my teeth cleaned and the sound of the tooth polisher. I cringe and make faces and cover my ears. Most of the people who work there are used to me doing this because I've been going to the same dentist since I was a child. When there's a new hygienist she usually apologizes profusely and becomes really concerned about "hurting me" at first.

I had to have dental work recently. And I dread the drill as well as strange noises/smells coming from my mouth. I took some xanax before going in and it really helped. Someone drove me home afterwards. Xanax really reduced the anxiety and dread. It is similar to ativan and valium.
